  1. I've already completed the assignment. We were given the conversions, but we had to make flashcards with visual "cues" that would help us remember them. I knew the conversions, I was just having a hard time coming up with pics to represent them. :)
  2. HEHE. It was supposed to be 1in = 2.5cm I drew an inchworm above 2.5cm Some of these I can't think of a visual for because they are easy ones I learned in elementary school..
  3. My math teacher has given us an assignment that none of us really has a clue about completing. We were given 19 "conversions" to memorize. We must put each on a flashcard (easy) and draw, paste, etc. a "visual cue" on the back side. He gave us 2 examples: for 4 qt=1gal a square divided into quarters, a big G in the middle and a little q in each quarter and for 2.2lbs=1kg a stick man with a big tummy with 2.2lbs in the middle looking at a scale that says 1kg But, we are all lost as to how to do the rest and it's due tomorrow. Any suggestions? The ones we have to do are as follows: 1c=8fl.oz 2pt=1qt 1ft=12in 1m=2.5cm 1qt=1.08L 1qt=1000cc 1000mcg=1mg 60mimums=1fl.dr 1 fl.oz=2tbsp 1 fl.oz=30mL 1 fl.dr.-4-5mL 1t=4-5mL 1lb=16oz 1g=1000mg 1hr=60min 1gr=60mg (except aspirin which is 65mg) 1t=60gtts
  4. MCI has an LPN course as well. It is $32500. Keep in mind that Fortis only has provisional accreditation. If the school does not get accreditation, many work places, schools that you would transfer to, etc., will not recognize the program, so you'd have to do everything all over again. If you have some of the necessary college credits within the last 7 years needed for MCI's RN program, I'd suggest that route. I will be starting MCI's LPN program in Virginia Beach July 26th. I chose that route because I don't have the time for Community College, and I can only attend school at night. I have some college credits, but they are 14 years old and not acceptable for transfer to MCI. I could opt to apply to the RN program, take the pre-req's of math, chem & computer and hope I get accepted, but if I don't, there's no guarantee that I'd be able to start the LPN program immediately and would have to wait several more months before the next program starts. I plan to do one of the bridge programs once I complete the LPN program and am working as an LPN. I want to go for the BSN and maybe eventually MS. Hope this helps. I don't know if there are anymore spaces, but the next LPN program starts July 26, so if you're interested, I'd call them right away.:) Good luck whichever route you choose!

Call your advisor. I don't know for sure but would imagine you should know by now.. Did you already complete your pre-req's? I decided to go with the LPN program because there were too many "what-if's" for the RN... I was told you have to COMPLETE the pre-req's before they'll even make a decision, because your grades on the pre-req's are taken into consideration.
  6. For MCI Virginia Beach it's $39,000 for the RN program and $32,500 for the LPN program right now. I'm planning to go for LPN starting July 26. I was looking at the RN program deciding if I should go for it instead of LPN, but unless I've interpreted it wrong, it looks like you'd be going to school 7 days a week for the night program. 5:30-10:30pm Mon through Friday and 8-4:30 Sat & Sunday.. For the LPN program the night classes are M-F 5:30 to 10:30 and once clinicals start they will be during class times and possibly Saturdays and Sundays, which I'm alright with. kirsten8177: Can you answer my questions? :)
  7. I'm going to the Virginia Beach Campus for LPN program..I was wondering because it's $32.5k here for the LPN program...guess I ought to check ab out the difference in price in campuses.. :) It's already been a struggle to find the $32.5k in funds..not sure how I would do another $6.5k..how many pre-req's are you taking? How long are they each?
  8. momto5kiddos-which location are you going to?
  9. I would ultimately like to work in a hospital, but I'm ok with working in a nursing home or doc's office for a while. I am doing the LPN program because I have no medical experience and feel I need to start somewhere, and CNA's make less than I'm making now in the non-medical field. I'm not getting any younger, so I need to get this finished quick! :) As far as the other classes go, the problem is 3 things..the biggest one is that the programs are all fulltime DAYTIME programs. I work fulltime M-F 9am-5pm. I need my job in order to pay the bills. I have been there almost 10 years and don't plan to leave until I am going to work for a hospital, Dr's office, etc. Second problem is they are all very competitive and have waiting lists. The third thing is that I would need so many pre-req's that I don't have, that it would take me years before I could even apply. We have lots of LPN to RN or LPN to BSN programs here. I plan to continue going to school once I'm working as an LPN. The programs for LPN to RN or BSN have a requirement of your working for 1yr as LPN prior to applying to the programs, so I will take some of my pre-req's while working as an LPN. Thanks for all the info! Are there any books, study aids, etc. that you suggest?
  10. I went to Borders books last night and got Kaplan's Math for Nurses, I will start with that one tonight. I'm pretty good in math, so I think this will be an easier subject. :) I must not be looking for the right thing for the "study guides for nursing and pharmacology". I've found a few books, online, but they're the study guides for text books.. Maybe I'm not looking for the right thing? Can you give me a title of one of them or the ISBN so I have a starting point? Do you have any fave websites for the A&P or any other subject? :redpinkhe As for Chemistry..it's been a LONG time..is there a study guide I ought to get for this? What types of things chemistry wise should I study? I really appreciate all your help! I am unable to initiate private messages yet, so if you'd like to send info that way, please feel free. :)
  11. smileyfaceRN & lindsayisxblonde: Thank you for the encouragement! I really do appreciate it! itsmejuli: Studying's my biggest concern. I was planning on either studying 2-3 hours before bed each night (as needed) or getting up early before work to study. I've been at my job almost 10 years. They are very supportive of my decision to go to school. When my work is finished, I will be able to study / read / do homework in between phone calls. My work time is somewhat flexible as well. During times when the classes are more intense, I may opt to cut my hours a little, maybe by 5-10 hours a week, though I'll have to do that only on an AS NEEDED basis. racefan88: Yes, Burgandy scrubs for the LPN program here too. The different programs wear different colors. We also have dental assisting, rn and something else..?? We have burgandy (LPN), navy blue (RN), green and a different shade of blue. I am married, no children. Could you possibly give me the names of the textbooks / manuals, etc. you've used so far? Are there any study aids, books, etc. you can suggest that I get to assist in my studies? I want to be as best prepared as I can. My school doesn't start until July 26th, so I have nearly 2 months to start reading and studying..so I'd like to do what I can.. pagandeva2000: I will get a calendar and planner soon. :) Thanks for the advice. :) I'm in a vastly populated area of Virginia. We have many hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, psych hospitals, and our local / regional jails. Our lunch at work is a "working lunch", aka, I don't get a lunch break. We eat at our desks and continue working. As for "me" time, a suggestion I read on another thread was that right after school, one student does yoga or works out, so she can relax a little and get prepared for studying. I know it will be late when I get out of school, but our gym is near our house and is open 24/7 Mon through Thursday, closes at 9pm on Friday..so I was planning on hubby meeting me there for 30-45 minutes to get in some exercise and re-energize. I will post on the state forums just as soon as I find them.. :) I'm still very new to this group. :) Thank you all for your kind words. I need any help, suggestions, etc. that I can get. :)
  12. I am starting the LPN program at Medical Careers Institute in Virginia Beach, VA, July 26, 2010. Has anyone been through that program? It's pretty fast paced. I will be working 9am to 5pm and school 5:30pm to 10:30pm. How much studying will I need to do? I can't quit work, because we need my income to pay the bills. I really want to be a nurse. The other programs around here are all full time daytime programs and don't have openings until fall of 2011. I guess my concerns are about being able to study and being able to find a job once I'm out of school. Does anyone even hire new LPN's anymore? I'm trying not to get discouraged, and I really want to do this. My family is somewhat supportive, but not totally. Help!
