I am a new graduate from a NY state nursing program and made the decision to move to Los Angeles and find a nursing job there. It has been a really confusing process and I do not know what to do.. I was hoping someone can give me advice. 1) Can I take the NCLEX here in NY if I want my CA license? 2) Would it make more sense to get my NY license first and then request reciprocity, send the paperwork and fee etc to be licensed in CA? I heard it can take 4 months for the CA application to be processed! So maybe I should first get the NY and then CA? It's ridiculous though as I will be moving to CA anyway. I do not want to have to wait 4 months to take the NCLEX! 3) Which application do I submit first? Pearson Vue registration or NY/CA application? 4) When should I submit what? And in what order? Also, if I take the NCLEX in NY and pass, can I apply for the CA license before I have the actual license (but I know I passed)? I understand it can take weeks to receive the license. 5) Is the process quicker to reciprocate a CA license from a NY license than to apply for initial licensure in California? Help! I'm confused and I don't want to decide something that I am going to regret... Thank you!
