Critical thinking
Honestly, that is what we were told. We didn't have to worry about it. It wouldn't come until about a year after we graduate. Now, suddenly they are baffled because none of the 36 students can critically think. When we brought it to their attention that perhaps we should have been being taught this all along they were defensive and we are basically stupid. So now here I am wondering if I am even going to be able to function as a nurse. After I dished out the money and spent all this time in this course. The course had raves from ppl in the area (I am new to the area) so imagine my disappointment

Critical thinking
Prior to attending the LPN program I was in an RN program and was not having the issues I am now. (I decided to go with the LPN bc I wanted something a little faster). Unfortunately, the instructors are not much help. Up until this point they have told us not to worry about critical thinking. Then one day they said no one in the class could critically think. When we ask they tell us they don't know. We just can't critically think.

Critical thinking
I am an accelerated LPN student half way through the program. I seem to be having trouble critically thinking. I don't know how I am messing up. I am doing very well in my classes but at clinical I have trouble. The first time I have a disease process I always forget things or get something backwards. Then after that I can usually get it pretty well. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Can someone please give me some advice to better critically think? I am considering quitting the LPN program and going into an RN program. I don't know if it may help to go at a little slower pace to learn things. Then perhaps it will stick better and I will be able to see the whole picture. I want to be a good nurse but fear that I will not be if my critically thinking doesn't kick in.

Intervention for low HCT, Hgb, and Lymphocytes
If a patient had an emergency c section and their HCT and hgb and lymphocytes have dropped what interventions can be done?
-
Post emergency C-Section information needed
Following a c-section why would the patient lie in a supine position? Also, what is the procedure for administering Rho Gam? Lastly, what does it mean if the fundus is found to be above the umbilicus and deflected to the right of the abd? What would the initial nurisng intervention be? I am working on a packet but we have not covered all of this information and I have been unable to find understandable and useful information online. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Emergency C-section questions
The fundus is firm and she has an order for Pitocin. Sorry I am trying to sort through all of this information to find what is important and what isn't. Most of it I am not even fully sure of the meaning as we have not had all of this in class yet. Thanks for the help though!!

Emergency C-section questions
I am working on a packet with a hypothetical patient. She was admitted for an emergency c-section. We only recently began pregnancy so I am unsure of a few things I have run into. First of all what is the different between a boggy and firm fundus? Why is a firm fundus good? Also what helps relieve the discomfort of breast enorgment? in one section it says that that her fundus is firm 1/U...what is the 1/U? Lastly, is a moderate amount of blood lochia to be expected or is this a sign of hemorrhage? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have I really learned what I need to.....
I am also a student and feel this way a lot. Once in awhile after a day at clinicals I am like wow I can't believe I knew that or did that and did it right! Occassionally, I will be walking down the street and I catch myself assessing people. These times I feel good about what I have learnt this far. Another important aspect is your instructors. Last semester, although I knew I still had a lot to learn I was comfortable with my patients. My instructor was there to help me. However, this semester I am constantly doubting myself yet I have a new instructor who constantly makes us feel stupid and belittles us. I have also been told by every nurse I have talked too that you don't really learn until you are in the field. They keep saying 1 yr in the field before you know that you know what you are doing. Good luck!

Time of the month in light colored scrubs
We have to wear white pants for clinicals. A lot of the women have thrown fits and the school (after many many years) have agreed to change the uniforms for next year. However, this does not help us any. Personally what I have found to be helpful is using a tampon and a pad. that way if by chance I get held up and began to leak I have a pad as a back up. I have tried panty liners but those are too thin. I have not had a day that I could not get to the restroom at least once and this usually works for me. However, this also depends on your cycle.

Patient education with pancreas cancer
The only new med was for the pt to buy an OTC iron supplement. Other than that he had no wounds no stomas and no TPN. Even knowledge wise he knew his disease the process and even his diet being that he had already had a year's experience with the condition.

what should a nurse teach a patient with pancreas cancer?
What should a nurse teach a patient with pancreas cancer? The patient is 39 and had received chemo (late 2009) and a whipple procedure (Jan. 2010) but the cancer has returned. The only thing he complained of was some pain which he had hot compresses applied too.

What is the procedure for administering anesthesia?
What is the proper procedure for administering Propofol? I have googled this but have not found anything very helpful. Mostly what I am finding is for patients so it doesn't explain so much how as why and what to do. Any help is appreciated.
