  1. I am a LPN working in a nursing home in MA. I have been mandated the last 2 weekends totaling 5 days. My work sched is 3-11 but due to lack of nurses ive been forced to work till 7am doing 12hour shifts. I was told agree to work the 12hrs of 7pm to 7am or have to work 16hrs working 3pm to 7am so after complianing and getting no where I took the 12hr shifts. I am exhausted and stressed out. I dread each time my phone rings or when I go back into work again. I'm stressed that again this weekend I will be forced to work, I work every weekend. Last weekend I was forced to cover because the reg 11-7nurse was on vacation, a vacation she put in for in Jan. Why does MA laws on mandating only list hospitals? I dont know what do about this situation.
  2. Congrats, I'm going to be starting in a 10 mo. program and have found this site to be helpful already.
  3. I am getting excited and nervous about school starting. I loved the ATI skills training, I think it will really help with studing and test taking. Can't wait to meet everyone and dive into the next ten months. - Linda
  4. Hi everyone, I would also love to meet up and go over all the material. Let me know the when and where. Thanks Linda
  5. Hi everyone, I haven't been on in a while. It was great to meet some of you at CPR class. I still have two of the ATI testing to do and going over the math (I only did the first 5 chapters, that was what we were suppose to do right ?) I have made so many index cards for A&P and have done the first 3 chapters in the workbook. I did the worksheets last month. I have my study area all set up and I try not to hyperventilate as I look at the stack of books to learn. I feel like this summer has just flown by and I can't believe we only have 2 weeks left. I had plans in the beginning of summer of having so much more studing done, all well as always life has gotten in the way of my plans LOL. Talk to everyone soon :) -Linda
  6. Hi Donna, so after writing to you I thought I would go and work on my math, chapter 3 I used a calculator the whole time and was sooo glad that it said I could. I would not want to work all that out the old fashion way ! Just thought I would share after opening my mouth and saying I wasn't using my calculator, well I am now! - Linda
  7. Hi Donna, So far I'm doing okay in the math I am up to chap 3 I just dislike it so much I wish I would just love it. With a&p I am on chap 2, I'm taking this course slow I want to really know it, the teacher at orientation seemed tough. I am still working full time and have 3 children so until my last of day of work (July 23rd Yeah) I don't have as much time as I would like to. I look at the stack of books that I have so far (11) and start to get worried about the next ten months, that is soooo much to learn in a short time. After I freak out I remind myself to just take one book, one chapter at a time and put the rest out of sight LOL :) I've been trying to some of the math the old fashion way so that if I don't have a calculator I will still know what to do, but when I get stuck I quickly pull out the calculator :) Don't worry to much about the math, I was until I found out if you don't get 100 you need to come 1hr early once or twice a week for math study group with a tutor until you know and the tutor feels you will pass the test. They really want everyone to pass and have put up lots of safety nets to help everyone along the way. I hope I pass the math test the first time I think that will be my first 100 on a math test! well now I'm rambling Linda
  8. Hi, I have my little study area all set up, I've been ordering the books a few each week. I started doing the math, its my worse subject also. I've been making flashcards on the A&P chapters, I havent done the ATI yet. Looking forward to meeting everyone in Aug. :) Linda
  9. Hi, starting my program Aug. 30th till June 2011 at Monty Tech !!! Can't wait I'm so excited.
  10. I found out on Friday that I got in, so I am excited to meet everyone this monday. I have been so nervous with the wait and now I'm a bundle of energy, I had a hard time sleeping last night I feel like a little kid on christmas eve :)
  11. I heard back from the school on Friday they do send out reject letters and I'm In I made it yea I am so excited and scared at the same time. Good luck to anyone else waiting like I was I know how nerve wracking it is.
  12. Hi, I am getting nervous. I was told that all desions would be made by the end of May. I haven't gotten a letter yet. Does this mean I'm not in ? Do they send out rejection letters? I applied for Monty Tech in Ma, I emailed and left a message today on their machine. Orientation is Monday June 7th, each day that goes by without a letter I lose hope. I wish I had asked during the interview if they send out reject letters, I just assumed they did so they wouldn't have lots of phone calls from everyone in my situation now. I've waited so I wouldn't appear pushy and needy but not knowing is making me nuts. Any thoughts on this or if anyone has an answer even better. Thanks Linda
  13. Hi thankyou for the link I have started reading it along with "A&P made easy", "Microbiology made easy", "math for nurse's", "NCLEX-PN review cards", and "LPN notes Nurse's clinical pocket guide". I plan on reading, studing and make flashcards until the class starts the end of Aug. If I don't get in I still plan on studing and taking some classes at the community college so I can be fully ready next year when I try again.
  14. Hi, I would call your state nursing license and make sure. I was told when I went for my interview who is accredited that you can't take the state exam in a non accredited school, so you wouldn't be able to get a job. I don't know if this is true for your state, I live in MA. Hope this helps
  15. Hi, I am waiting to hear if I got into the program but I want to spend from now until the end of summer before the LPN program begins getting ready. What types of things should I do to make it easier when I start school. I am making flash cards of Lab Values and studing math problems like metric conversions. Can anyone who is in the program give me other thoughts on what they did or WISH they did before school started. I am just to nervous to sit and wait and need to something. I won't be working and will be starting to get everyone in my family (husband and 3 young teenagers) to have set jobs they will do while I'm in school. I love flash cards it worked great for me when I studied for the Teas and would love to set up a bunch with all kinds of helpful stuff. Thanks Linda
