  1. Hi, Yes that makes sense and may I add it's quite easy to understand. I've heard of that book....I may have to try it out now. I still don't get the renin increase thing though. I can't find anything that explains the therapeutic revelance of increasing renin. Blah. Frustrating. Thanks so much though for this info and the book rec.:)
  2. Hello Nursing Community! I'm a new student and I came across something that is driving me crazy if someone can please answer and help! Reading on ACE Inhibitors describes how they work, which I understand how they work on Ang II, however, the drug guide book also states, "ACE inhibitors also ↑ plasma renin levels and ↓ aldosterone levels. Net result is systemic vasodilation." Why would an antihypertensive therapeutically work to INCREASE renin? I suppose negative feedback would result in ↑ plasma renin, but the drug guides state this as a therapeutic action. I can't understand this for the life of me. Please someone, help! Help! Ive been looking this up online all night last night.
  3. I'm a new nursing student and have been hearing from a few people to study pharmacology and drugs by drug family. I'm trying to understand exactly what a drug family is . Does a drug family mean it's pharmacologic classification? Taking Beta-blockers as an example, is this a family? They all end in -olol. I have the Davis Drug Guide for Nursing and "drug family" isn't specified, only pharmacologic and therapeutic classifications. Does anyone have a recommended book that specifies the drug families each med belongs to? I'm really trying to understand all this. Thanks so much.
  4. Thanks! It was 25 based on the old pts system.
  5. Yay:yeah:. I did pretty well! It's just a relief ya know? Yet as I say this, I know there are many many more hurdles ahead. I'm so grateful for people posting about the TEAS, and other things of course. All of that really does help.
  6. Nothing yet, and it's effing torture! I called them this AM. They said that results are up within 24 hrs. 24hrs I assume from the time they opened up this morning. Im anxious and checking constantly.
  7. Hi, You may want to look at ratemyprofessors.com as a resource for comparing the schools u are considering. You can look up the school first then list out the departments. On one page you'll see you all the nursing profs listed and their ratings, etc. Ive noticed some have students commented about the school's program itself on individual prof ratings.
  8. Thanks CAguy. I'm interested in the study group you are putting together. Can't send u a pm about it, looks like I haven't 'earned' being able to do that yet. It'd be nice to have a few ppl to attend the skills lab with on a regular basis =).
  9. Hey everyone, so TEAS testing is where on Saturday? I totally forgot to ask and I don't think it was mentioned. Was it mentioned at the very end? I swear I was paying attention!
  10. From what I was told when I called after I received my acceptance letter in November is that you can defer to start one semester and one semester only. So I do think it's guaranteed you have a spot for sure the semester you defer to. If I can remember correctly I think they may have touched on this at one of the info seminars. To request the deferrement they require you to send in a signed letter via mail asap. Not sure what they allow now or if that applies to alternates.
  11. Hi, yes, I'm so happy to report I'll be ready to start this Fall as well. I was accepted last semester, but had to defer to Fall - they allow you to do that once (not sure if they still allow that). Planning to attend orientation on the 19th. Have to admit, I am worried about the TEAS. All these years of hardwork and it comes down to ONE exam. I was told they don't allow retakes. So...yes I'm worried! It's been a long time since high school for me, don't know about you guys?
