  1. I had worked for hospital for several months and had been treated very strangely there. I worked very hard to achieve good care of my patients. As a nurse with one year experience, I did make some small mistakes, totally five in six months. I strongly felt that I have been treated unfairly, such as 1. I made some mistakes that other nurse make too. However, the managers, charge nurse and other mean nurses in this unit were very picky at my mistakes. It is not practical for any nurses in this unit not to make any mistake. 2. The manager took off my name from the staff list without any notice even I were still working there. 3. I get pay newbie pay and discouraged from staying in this unit by nurse manager "you are not an expert", although I think I am competent to take care of my patients to match my pay. 4. I signed two classes. The nurse educator took only my name off the class list without notifying me. I questioned and was told that new nurse in this unit are not allowed to take this class. But I found out other new nurses who signed the class took the class. 5. I was watched very closely and picked for any trivial mistakes I made working under huge stress.s. 6. Some nurses in the unit gave me very hard time and unfair attitude during shift reports. I didn't argue with them and just left quietly. But I am so scared by this experience. I feel if they don;t like you, they would always find your mistakes and give you very hard time. I am a very nice person, not knowing how to argue and play the game. Should I still work in hospital setting? I do have offer from another hospital, but hesitating to take it now. Any advise? Is my above experience usual in hospitals here or, just because the people in the hospital I have been are not acting right? Thanks a lot!
  2. I transfused one unit blood without checking the consent. The patient was unresponsive and hct was low. I rushed to give blood and forgot to check consent. What is the consequence? I am so scared. My Shift was busy when other nurses read magazine. It was a hard assignment.
  3. I just heard from a friend that a nurse who does visiting nurse gets $40/hr. The hospital pay rate I know is around $27/hr. I don't understand why some nurses prefer hospitals instead of being a visiting nurse if the pay scale is so good as a visiting nurse. I am confused. Can anybody point out the con or pro as hospital nurse or visiting nurse?
  4. I have been a RN for one year. I feel very stressed working as a RN. Any mistake even minor can take away my job. My nurse manager gave me such a hard time for any mistake I have made. I cannot say I will not make any mistake in the future. In addition, the pay rate for nurses is not that attractive. I am wondering if I need change to another field. I have two kids, married. THe youngest one is n infant. I am thinking about finance or accounting. Anybody has any idea about job markets and salaries in Boston for finance or accounting. Thanks.
  5. Jessica, thank you for your valuable information. I am very interested in the hospital you mentioned. I am working on my BSN now. This fall is my second semester. I will finish my BSN next Spring. I am still working in Tennessee, trying to get one-year experience before applying for a job around Boston. Are you in Boston working as a RN? If you want to release the information further, my email is [email protected]. Thanks a lot!
  6. Thank you all for input. I am working on moving to Boston now. I got a lot of encouragement from your input. I will work in any hospital 20 miles around our apt.. I don;t know which part of the greater Boston we will find an apt. Do you have any recommendation? We can afford one 2-bedroom, 1 bath apt. under $250000.
  7. But I have to go there because my husband found a better job there and already started his work. I read a lot of posts here about new graduates struggling in finding a job. I am surprised. I am in Tennesee now. I was hired as a nurse intern even in school and launched in ICU straight after graduation. My pay was a RN pay even before I passed my board. Now I am in this nice unit, with a pay rate without a benefit as >$65000/year before tax, for 40hours/week. The houses' price here is low (You can easily get a nice new house for $150000 in the best school district). The city is medium-sized. I am living so well here and hate leaving. There are a lot of jobs for nurses. MY friend who graduated after one year got a second job, then his monly pay is easily to be $6000 after tax. I like the enviroment for nurses here. I don't understand why in Boston, MA, new nurses cannot find even a job. I don't know how much an experienced nurses with one year experience will make in Boston. Could anybody here give some informaiton and encouragement for my moving to Boston? Thanks.
  8. Thank you for your reply. I would work anywhere around Boston (center, downtown, or suburb). I will communte. I worked as a RN for six months and 12 months as nurse intern in ICU. Is this experience okay to find a entry job in ICU or Med-surg. floor around Boston? Thanks.
  9. Our family will relocate to Boston. My husband has health insurance, so I am interested in the RN pay rate without benefits. The housing expense is very high in Boston, so I have to make a little bit more money if possible. Is there this kind of pay rate increase without benefits in hospitals around Boston? I only have a half year experience as RN but has one year experience as nurse intern. I am in BSN program right now. Is it easy to locate a RN job in hospitals around Boston. How is the basic pay rate with and without benefits? Thank you so much if anybody knows in this forum .
  10. I bet for $1 that you will PASS. I have the exact same feeling as you. I got 76 questions. A lot of medications, teaching and priority questions which I feel I know nothing for. I did look up the answers for some questions I can remember after the test and found I got most of them wrong. But I found out today that I passed. I am so happy. And I think you pass just like me.
  11. Thank you so much!! Good Luck to you! I believe you will PASS it very soon.
  12. I think I did it very bad. I checked the books and found out I am sure I missed 6 questions already, no to mention those I am not sure. These 6 questions are easy after I checked out the answers. I just don't have enough knowledge to answer them right. I have a LOT of questions regarding medications. I think I did bad in pharmacology and the computer got me. I also had a lot of "Assess first" and "teaching patients" questions. Are these high-level questions? I just feel this is the most difficult test I have had. If I fail, I don't know how to study for it now, since the difficulty of the questions makes me feel I need read all books I studied in nursing school for at least one time again to pass this test. I hope I will pass, other wise, I don't know how to study for it. By the way, I think I got first 6 questions all right. Does this mean the compluter gave me harder questions? Good luck for all who are struggling in NcLex. Congrats. to all who have already passed. Thanks a lot!
  13. Hi, Every one: I am in Tennessee. I just graduated from the RN nursing school. I will take Nclex in March. I am wondering if any one here knows the following question I am so concerned about. 1. If I fail the first Nclex-RN, how long should I wait to take the second one? And how long should I wait to take the third one if I fail the second one? 2. Is there a maximum time I can take Nclex-RN in Tennessee? x3 or x4 or x6 or unlimited? Where can I find the official information? 3. Is there a limited time frame to take the test? For example, should I take and pass the test in one year or two year or three years? If I cannot pass the test in a cerntain time, should i need to go back to school again? I am so scared about going back to nursing school again. Thanks a lot!!
