  1. I'm in! Wooooot! I'm an LPN doing the transition program. Anybody else?
  2. I used to be a vet tech too! I've loved the change to nursing, but sometimes I wish I could have brought the muzzle or rabies pole with me! Good luck to you!
  3. I HIGHLY recommend AVOIDING Excelsior.... Two of my good friends are both in a lawsuit with them, (well, one friend just won his actually). I think it's a total scam, and the gov't is clamping down on these agencies right and left... who knows what the rules will be when you finish the program.... I'm in Florida also- Sarasota... where about are you? I'm looking into Galen, it's expensive, and "for Profit" but it's accredited...
  4. I am a new nurse (4 months into my first job at a urology practice). I made an error last Thursday. I immediately grabbed the vial, put it in my pocket, went to the waiting room to see if the pt had left (they did ) and ten went to my boss, an one of the drs... Patient went unharmed, three drs rallied around me and were very supportive. I was visibly shaking, tearing up, fighting off the cryfest... My DON informed me that I have a meeting with her and HR on the phone tomorrow... I'm shaking in my boots! :'( Did I do the right thing? What do I say to the HR gods tomorrow about it? I'm so devastated already, just personally ravaged. Any advice? So far this thread has helped me deal a lot... Thx all!
  5. Hi all! I graduate in August 2013 (60 days!!!) and I'm elated. I certainly don't want to get behind in the jobs market, nor do I want to jump the gun too early... Should I start submitting my resume to possible places now? Or is it considered too early still? 60 days until I graduate, probably another 30 until I sit for boards... What should my timeline look like? Just looking for a little guidance, I suppose. In my dreams, I'd love to work in a doctors office (OB/GYN) or in public health (public health dept, prison system, psychiatric facility, etc.) In the meantime, I'm working as an aide/med tech at an ALF, but they do not have any LPN positions open currently, or coming available anytime soon, as far as they can expect.
  6. Yes, I would be interested in working in any of those capacities. I did HOSA in high school (ha, several years ago) and I remembered really liking hospice care... hm. I did work for a time in Texas as a CNA, in a LTM care facility. Does a CNA employed at a hospital do the same thing as @ LTM care? I've heard CNA in a hospital is better, varies more... thoughts?
  7. I was recently accepted to the LPN program at CTC in Florida... however, I know of one local hospital (of 3) is NOT hiring LPNs at all, instead, RNs or CNAs. This is the new trend apparently. I was also told by my cousin, who is an RN (BSN) in SW Florida, that I should drop the LPN program because hospitals aren't really hiring them so much anymore; they'd sooner hire a CNA and help her through school, than an LPN. AHHH. She did the LPN to RN now to NP... but she got her LPN 10 years ago. She insists that times have changed. I need to decide ASAP! I'm supposed to start LPN school in July! I'n pretty sure the school is going to tell me to do LPN, mostly because the program is $5,000 more... lol. I'm here to gather some opinions.... Should I get my foot in the door as a CNA and work toward my RN, or should I start the LPN as planned and go for RN then? HELP! My only concern is that while I work as a CNA, I fear that it may take me 4-5 years to finally get my RN! Seems like such a long time... :/ Is that an unreasonable expectation or am I spot on? errrrr. Thanks all. I appreciate any advice you could offer!
