the math is like algebra 1 or maybe algebra 2 level at the most. i think the AECP nursing applicants are at a slight disadvantage there. a lot of the applicants are math/physics/or engineering majors and have had a few semesters of calculus. anyone with that kind of background should have little difficulty getting in the 90's atleast for the math section.

My husband took that AFOQT, he got 89 Pilot, 98 Navigator, 93 Acad Aptitude, 68 Verbal (he's never been great at Verbal stuff), and 99 Quantitative.. Good luck with AECP and NECP...

Congrats Amillia! I sent you a message on fb because I couldn't PM you (not enough posts). I hope you're able to respond, my husband is sitting on pins and needles. Or I can just tell you, anybody who's last name starts with patt make it?? lol

My husband is in the same boat. His science GPA is excellent, but his cumulative GPA is not so great because he didn't drop his classes when he left university. When you're young, you don't really think about stuff like that, but if they really do mean the "whole person" concept, then little details like that should be taken into consideration, especially since it was over 6 years ago. My biggest fear for him is that the board will pick up his packet and decide that his GPA isn't high enough. If that was the case, they shouldn't lower the cumulative GPA to begin with! I think everyone on this forum has a truly good chance at getting picked up by NECP. My opinion is (and this is just MY opinion) they lowered the GPA because they acknowledge that some people may have other reasons for having a lower cumulative GPA, like not thinking about their future because most 18 year-olds don't have their priorities straight at that point in their lives. GPA is not a reflection of a person's entire academic aptitude, because it not just depends on what classes make up this GPA as airforceguy has said, but as well as what the caliber is of the school a person went to. A 3.0 from Berkeley is not the same as a 3.0 from University of Alaska (which is where I go to nursing school). Either way, all nurses take the same boards, so in the end, its really up to the person to do the actual learning. A good GPA doesn't translate to passing the boards. Sorry for the long post, but so much investment has been made by everyone on here for this program and to become a nurse and I think for a lot of us, this has consumed most of our lives probably for the last few years (taking pre-reqs, long nights of studying) and this forum, at least to me, is sort of a comfort zone and an overall positive space. The Air Force is hurting for nurses, and having previously enlisted people who are committed to the military mission, I think, is a great way to strengthen retention rate. Young nurses are separating at triple the rate from a few years back, so the Air Force is not just short on nurses, they're losing them faster as well. On another note, my husband ran into the Chief Nurse at his clinic and she told him that NECP did not receive as many packages as they were expecting so that should be good news for everyone who applied since there is not a lot of competition for the 50 slots. Take that however you want it, but I for one want to remain positive until the fat lady sings!

I just wanted to ask whether you had an unconditional acceptance to a nursing program and not a conditional one... conditional acceptance are, if I'm not mistaken, waitlisted form the get go... so if you had all these stats AND an unconditional acceptance yet you still didn't get picked up, then that is quite alarming...

I'm actually participating in a program through the Department of Veterans Affairs, which is where I work. It's basically the same set-up as NECP/AECP, get paid my salary while going to school, plus they cover all tuition and expenses. I will owe 3 years, but it sure beats student loans! I was planning on staying with the VA anyway. The application process was not even close to being as stressful as NECP or any Air Force program though ? That's awesome that your husband has finished, I can't wait to be done... 4 more semesters!

well, I'll introduce my husband, since he is the one applying... he's a SSgt, been in 5 years and he works as a physical therapy technician at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska. He will be attending University of Alaska, Anchorage in the Fall 2010 (hopefully). As for me, I'm currently a nursing student at the same university, just started my second semester and I absolutely love it :-) I think I'm more anxious than my husband in finding out the board results ASAP and sort of an eager beaver to find out just any information I can, because there isn't much out there.

I hope everyone makes it. The info I got was from an email my husband received from the Chief Nurse on 4/22/2010... it read... "I wanted to let you know I heard this evening on our PACAF SGN teleconference that AFPC has received 27 complete packages, they are currently working on 14 for a total of 41. There were 72 who had stated they were going to apply and they will most likely accept some after the due date." I hope they didn't accept some after the due date. Let the countdown begin =)

I guess we will be waiting along with you 2012RN2b. A disappointing non-select for AECP. I hope NECP goes better for my husband, as well as you. Good luck!

We are at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska. The Chief Nurse was great up here as well, and my husband definitely got a lot of information from her about being a nurse in the AF. Even though we applied to both programs, I'm really hoping that my husband gets accepted to AECP so that we don't have to wait for another month for results! it feels like a year... but either way, I hope that everyone on here gets in. It definitely makes the wait a lot more bearable knowing that other people are also going through it. I actually just finished my first nursing semester at the University of Alaska, Anchorage and it would be great if my husband could start this fall so he can use all my books. NECP/AECP is great, but $600 for books/supplies won't even cover the first semester! Good luck to you and everyone else, let's hope we run into each other in the future :-)

I'm currently in the VANEEP program with the Alaska VA. I applied last July 2009, and received notification of my acceptance in September 2009 right before I went on maternity leave. Suffice it to say, the nurse education manager was awesome at getting all my stuff together. I completed the forms she gave me, and she pretty took care of everything else since it needed to go through a board locally (not sure if this is VHA wide SOP, but we have a board of nurses that approve VANEEP applicants before they are sent off). It is a great program, and after I graduate I will owe the VA 3 years of service, which is perfectly reasonable and I don't plan on leaving the VA anyway. The obligation for service is technically supposed to be done with the same VA that sponsored your VANEEP application, however, I was told that transfers have been done before. I was concerned about it because my husband is active duty military so I wanted to be sure that we won't get separated if I did get the VANEEP scholarship. Good luck in figuring out the best program for you, but VANEEP is definitely the best deal they have with salary + school paid for.

my husband applied to both AECP and NECP this year and we are waiting for the board results to come out for AECP (after all this time a few days seems forever)... I'm keeping my fingers crossed.. Anyway, I wanted to share some info he got from the Chief Nurse at his hospital regarding NECP... she said that as of the deadline, AFPC has received 27 completed packages and they are still working on 14 more to verify completion and if they meet requirements completely... so that makes a total of 41 applications (if the 14 are actually complete).. they have 50 spots... so they are either going to extend the application deadline, accept late ones or the chances are pretty damn good everyone would be accepted (I'm hoping for the latter). She also said that 72 had stated that they were going to apply, so I guess it will all depend on whether they are willing to accept late packages. I think it would be unfair to those who did put them together on time.
