  1. Look into school nursing..................you barely ever have to talk to a doctor. You do have a clinical nursing director though.
  2. I have never heard of monitoring for a pharmaceutical company. What does the job entail? How do you find out about them? I enjoy paperwork....I used to be a Materials and Processes engineer at General Dynamics in a previous life.....
  3. I'm right in the center of Fort Worth. I really don't want to go to another city because I would need up front money which I don't have. I've sent a resume to Care Now twice with no response. I have worked in the OR, med-surg, home health, school, and drug/alcohol rehab. I really hate to say this but I feel that being blackballed twice might be the kiss of death. You are right my confidence is pretty shot. What I am really good at is paperwork, I am one of the wierd people that enjoys it. I used to be an engineer at General Dynamics in the Materials and Processes Lab before I became a nurse, and I really enjoyed experiments and reports, mostly desk work. I also have a degree in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry but it's very old knowledge since I graduated the first time in 1980. Sounds wierd but I was really happy if there hadn't been such awful politics and upheaval in the defense industry. What I would really like to do is some sort of case management, mostly a desk job on the 3-11 shift part time. I'm definitely not full time worker material. Now you know my story.....pretty pitiful isn't it ????? HA HA
  4. I disagree with your Einstein comment/quote. Reagan used the military and strategic buildup of weaponry (preparation) to stop the cold war and destroy communism without a shot being fired. In this case the best defense for the United States and the world from war propagated by the communists was a well prepared and efficient, though unused, WAR MACHINE. Thank God for Reagan and the Department of Defense. I just had to comment - this quote really bugs me.
  5. Glad to know that I'm not the only one that knows the scoop in Texas.....there's not enough of a nursing shortage here for employers not to have their nose in the air and be EXTREMELY picky. Age discrimination is almost impossible to prove. I realize I'm feeling sorry for myself, but after six months of this I'm pretty fed up. Though I really want to be a nurse, I'm going to have to consider something else pretty soon. Thanks for backing me up on what it's like here......
  6. You may have been lucky.....but in my life WHENEVER I do anything wrong I always get caught...some kind of karma thing....I don't know. I also don't like to lie or omit, it just bugs me. Except when someone asks you how they look...you tell them fine, even if you think they look like a dog... :rotfl: :balloons: :) Or are they fat, of course you say NO......
  7. But she has to mention her last two jobs because every application now says that if any section is judged to be untrue or incomplete they can fire you on the spot. So either way you are hosed. I'm going through this right now, too. Plus age discrimination, which I can't prove. Sorry for the pity party......
  8. I wish they would have worked with me, but they wouldn't. Thanks for the kind words. I guess the hospitals and agencies here in Texas don't feel like they have to work with you. Since I'm not a specialty nurse it's much more competitive.
  9. Group One is like the IRS audit of nursing......I've been blackballed by them once already in 1996.....managed to get another job....but it's definitely not that easy this time. Major pity party here...what I don't like is going on interviews and then having to keep calling back before they will tell you NO. Inconsiderate as far as I see...... Another problem - it is very hard to change specialties because of Catch 22 - if you don't have a year of experience they won't give you a chance.....how then do you get experience??? the $64,000 question......
  10. Where near cowtown? Also wandering RN I know exactly how you feel......I haven't worked in nursing since March had two short term jobs since last December.....fired from both.... feel like you.....doubting myself, etc. Have even applied for jobs I don't qualify for....I even have a previous degree before nursing. I consider searching for a job to be much more difficult than actually doing a job. Someone had a quote about there are lots of nursing jobs...that gave me a laugh....everyone thinks that any nurse can get a job...boy are they WRONG. Oh well, you can see I am having a pity party, too. Good luck and I pray for you to be blessed with employment that places you where God needs you to be. I like to think that nurses are God's hands on Earth like Mother Teresa said. God will put you where you belong. End of sermonette.:balloons:
  11. Thank you very much!!!!!
  12. How did you get the Tigger under your screen name?
  13. And this is such a big deal because.... Did it hurt the patient in any way???? I can think of a lot worse things than this.
  14. Dixiecup, I know what you mean. I haven't been the benefactor of understanding supervisors either. Just a series of bad breaks. I just wish I didn't like nursing so much.
  15. I agree with ktwlpn, you did what you could. There are so many sad/tragic situations exacerbated by alcohol.......I think grief counseling would help you.....
  16. :) :balloons: What keeps coming to my mind are the words of a couple of hymns...."for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I've committed unto him against that day...." and "Blessed assurance Jesus is mine, oh what a foretaste of glory divine......"
  17. Discott,You said it very well......I do not have the skills with words that you do....yesterday someone said that believing because of fear is a trivial reason.....but my opinion is whatever reason gets you to believe in Jesus is the right one. I just keep thinking of Bible verses...."be prepared to give a reason for the hope you have".....I look forward to meeting you in heaven someday......your hospice patients are very fortunate to have a nurse like you....God bless you. P. S. I know someone who lives in Canton, OH - she's the president of a fan club I belong to.
  18. It does matter who is right or wrong. The Bible says, "I (Jesus) am the way, the truth, and the life, NO MAN comes to the Father but BY ME. That means sinners or saints, good or bad, and there will be a judgement where the Book of Life will be opened and whoevers name isn't in it will be cast into the Lake of Fire. No excuses will be taken then, then it will be too late. I wouldn't want to take a chance of not believing in Jesus, and finding out I was wrong for all eternity, how about you????? God says in the Bible, "I have put eternity into the minds of men." That is the hope that Christians have, to spend eternity loving, adoring, and worshipping God. But utimately it is your choice, I pray you make the right one. A great movie about this very thing to watch is "The Bema", it talks about the judgment seat of Christ - "The Bema" seat.
  19. I'll be controversial. I'm definitely one of the "foolish" believers. The Bible says, 'Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you, and lo I (Jesus) am with you always, even till the end of the world. God commands (it's not the Great Suggestion - it's the Great Commission) that we preach the Gospel and then it is up to the Holy Spirit to speak to the hearts of men. I pray that he speaks to all that read this post.
  20. Yea, and people that call Alzheimers disease, Old Timers. And sometimes people that mispronounce are well educated and they still continue to mispronounce even when it's brought to their attention. Another one I can't stand is - orientate - wrong, it's orient. There are many others....I've had people tell me they were intimidated by my vocabulary.
  21. Yes, and I don't like the fact that healthcare professionals are supposed to be perfect, while other professions don't have to be perfect. We aren't allowed to be regular imperfect humans, no way that would be possible.
  22. The only bad thing is that he lives so far away from me. I haven't seen him since Christmas. Both of his parents are in the military...... Where do you live? How old are you?
  23. Did you write it down anywhere? If not, I still think it would be better to keep it on the QT. You can't change it now it's been too many hours. A little less insulin is better than too much. I've had many more problems in my 12 years of nursing with patients bottoming out on blood sugars than elevated ones. The last one wasn't my patient but I helped a nurse recently with a patient who had a BS of 35. Let me tell you it was scary...... The scariest for me was a student in middle school who didn't take her diabetes seriously and varied between the 40's to the 600's......now that was no fun at all. Keep your chin up......you can write back again and I'll answer.
  24. #1 It's too late to do it now so don't go and confess.... just remember it for the future. #2 It's better for the blood sugar to be a little high than too low. #3 In the future if you make a mistake like this just take the patients blood sugar again in 30 minutes and prior to their next meal or bedtime.
