  1. I am ready to get started too. I sent you a PM. There are 13 of us in this class but you are the only other incoming SRNA at YSU that I have seen on here
  2. I started in CVICU right after I graduated. I worked in the unit as an aid and did my ICU rotation there as well. The key is the 4+ months of internship I had in the unit with various preceptors that helped me understand and put it all together. I don't feel like I lost anything by not doing med/surg, med/surg is hard in its own right but no more difficult than ICU it just is alot of time management and organization. I start my CRNA program in Aug and no one asked me about not having med/surg experience in any of my interviews.
  3. Aug 16 St elizabeth/ Youngstown state University!!!
  4. You all hit the nail on the head as to how i feel. My wife and I just closed on our house in the Youngstown area last week and we move in 2 weeks. I just keep questioning my ability, knowledge and experience hoping that I have enough to make it through the first semester let alone the whole program. Luckily I have I very supportive wife and family that will be near by for support. I think I have gotten my financial worries under control for now, we won't be living in the lap of luxury but my wife makes decent money and we will have enough to get by. Plus my wifes family and my family are only minutes from us to help us with child care so that alleviates some worries. Like Vinny said if we have good supportive classmates that aren't competative but support each other through the process it will be much better. I do feel better knowing that I am not the only one with all these feelings.
  5. I took my CCRN to help me get into CRNA school and for personal reasons. I don't know if it helped but I did get in and it helped me better understand some complex concepts in critical care. I know that the education for CRNA will account for CE towards my 100 hours I need before 2006 renewl of my CCRN. I plan on maintaining my certification even after I am done with CRNA school, I figure I earned it and might as well keep it. That being said I think if I were you and had already been accepted and are in the process of moving I wouldn't do it, you are already busy and it will serve you no real purpose except to expand your knowledge but I have a feeling you will get plenty of that when school starts in Aug.
  6. Vinny!!, Congrats, I knew you would get in. I'll be seeing you in August. Let me know if you need any info about the area. I live in Dayton now but my wife and I lived in Ytown area for 20 years prior to moving here. We are moving next month to Hubbard just outside of Youngstown. Congrats again ! Ian
  7. 3years CVICU experience applied to 2 got interviews at both and was selcted as an alternate on 1 and start this fall in the other.
  8. Vinny, I interviewed at Akron in 2003 and got an alternate slot. The interview process is much different than ST E's. It was 90% clinical rapid fire questions plus a written test. They interview everyone in one day so it is fast and brutal. The program itself seems very good, they have numerous clinical sites throughout akron and even columbus and Dayton. It has a good reputation and they accepted 33 students out of 110+ applicants for this class starting in June. They have prerequesites before you start the program such as a grad stats class but you already have your masters they would like that, they were big on taking grad classes before I applied. Like I said I din't get in but I was/am an alternate but the interview was more formal and much more clinically focused than st e's. Hope that helps. Ian

  10. Vinny, Sounds like you did well. When I interviewed she asked me the same question and I felt the same way you did, I should've given more detail...been more specific...ect. It sounds like you know your stuff and they can see that through the fumbling... they know your nervous and just want to see how you react. did they ask you about a book that changed your life? Let me know how it turns out. Hope to see you there this fall. Ian
  11. Thanks air, I hope you get into the program too, let me know how your interview goes and if figured out where you want to go. Ian
