  1. Lol... I am from California... just living in new york for awhile it's just easier for ppl here to understand cali compared to socal. hence the name... I don't think I ever said this was the average salary... I said MY average of both jobs at my hospital would be around 90,000 but if you misunderstood then I can tell you some hospitals pay less and some pays more... I'm sorry you didn't get the job... if you did you would find out the night differential and OT pay... but yes, hospitals do pay experience nurses more. Yeah... you probably missed read it somewhere... But I hope you find a job! :)
  2. I'm able to schedule my own schedule and it does workout. It's pretty draining I might add. I barely have time for anything... My question regards to the fact that I want to move to cali ASAP. So the sooner the better so I can enjoy the sun there! If working two jobs means employers see me as more experience than it might be easier to get a job there compare to working one job. Haha. I figure from some of the response already... but there are sour apples everywhere... I hope they all do find jobs. I might be quitting one job so that opportunity can go to a new grad...
  3. oh... you guys got it all wrong... I explained it in the thread I previously posted that was deleted... but I thought the nclex was super HARD!! So hard that in fact I thought it was a JOKE because I was getting so many select all that applies pharm questions that I have never even heard the name of the meds before... honestly, if I was to study for a year... 4 months... or even 4 days like I had done... it would not have made a difference... it's either you know it or you dont and I was lucky enough to have some questions that I knew or somewhat could guess the answer... because majority of the test was just narrowing it down to two answers and guessing from there on...
  4. I put up a study guide I had on for this forum and am needing it because people have been asking me how I passed it with just 4 days of studying... is there any way to retrieve my old post with the attached study guide of what I crammed in 4 days to pass my test???? I believe it was 30 pages of notes... I tried finding it on my laptop but I nolonger have it... seriously whoever downloaded it and have it can you forward it to me so I can disperse it to those who are asking. the thread has been deleted... IDK if it was deleted because I said that 80% of my questions came from my study guide or not... but it was really helpful to a lot of people too. It was all high yield stuff.
  5. my friend told me that one of the hospital I was hired on and especially the floor I am working only hired me because of my looks. Everyone is good looking on the floor... how would you feel if you were told this?
  6. I work two jobs at night shift so if you take that into account they are both around 90000 each. Which is pretty average for new grads here
  7. LOL. I meant a month! I thought my pay stub would show hourly but it doesn't. They never told me how much I get paid hourly so I'm kind of confused. I get paid hourly then???
  8. Whenever I work with certain nurses I just hate the fact that in the beginning of the shift they fight over assignments and sometimes this takes so much time... It's so unprofessional and patients can actually hear these nurses. Honestly, I'm a new grad and I have never complained. I just take whatever patients other nurses gives me or do not want and I'm good to start my day. As a New GRAD I hear of horror stories of nurses have emotional breakdown or stress when they step into the hospital but I'm so optimistic about everything and I help out all the nurses on the floor as well as complete my assignment. I've been a shining star and have been awarded the daisy award just last month... NOTE I've only been working for 10 months. For some reason, I don't feel stressed at work like a lot of new grads and I don't get any anxiety... Is that weird to not experience????
  9. Thanks for the input! I am probably going to stay here for another year and gain the experience but I'll be looking at the same time. Mostly in the bay area and southern cali. So are nurses in california hourly wage? I'm a bit confused because the two hospital I work for only told me my salary wage. For example 170000 and I get 3 weeks vacation, 2 weeks of sick, all the holidays, 3 personal days and 3 floating holidays. How would you calculate the hourly wage?
  10. How do you know how much you make an hour? For instance I make a combine income of 170,000 in both RN jobs. How does one know what you get paid each hour? Are nurses salary or hourly????? I work 13 days a month 12 hour shift for each job. I see people posting about how much they get paid hourly so I'm kind of confused on that part... My acceptance letter only showed how much we get a year and it doesn't post hourly wage. Would you take into account the vacation days, sick days, personal days, and holidays we get too when we convert to hourly???
  11. I work two full time RN jobs as a new grad and I am trying to find ways of decreasing the amount of tax. I mean it is nice to recieve two checks but I think I'm being taxed too much because I don't have any dependents and am not married. How can I decrease my tax? How do new grads or RN in similar situation go about doing it?
  12. I graduated in Jan 2012. Currently, I work full time in two of the nations top hospital and I get a day off the week. I'm happy about the salary though because I have a lot of school loans... and I don't feel burnt out like people would assume. What is the average salary for New Grad in Cali? But I eventually want to move to cali from NYC within the year or so... because I have 2 jobs in ER and ICU would I still be considered a new grad after a year? Also I know it might be irrelevant but I noticed in my nursing cohort guys tended to land jobs much quicker then females did... Would it be easier for a guy to land a job in Cali as a new grad?
  13. I wasn't really looking for a job because I already have a full job. But one of the top hospitals in NYC called me for an interview and I was like WTH. Everything went well so now I have two full time jobs in the city. I honestly feel very fortunate because I do not have any experience and I have two full time jobs as a new grad already. I hear about people taking months to find jobs or having "connections" but maybe I'm just lucky or is it because I'm a guy? One hospital I work on ED and the other hospital I work on NICU floor. My question is because I have two full time jobs after one year will it be like me having two years of experience or would it be considered one????
  14. Thanks a lot! So they won't even know I am working there if they run my background check with my social security? They ask for all my living address, etc. I just am terrified I will not be offered the position because on the form it says, that I have to be honest... so I was going to say I currently work there but I just really don't want to risk the current employer knowing... But if you feel it would not be a problem then I think I won't tell AA that I am currently working at BB.
  15. The new hospital AA offered me a job and doing a background check. But during the time of interview at AA I only had 4 weeks of working at BB Hospital and I did not put BB Hospital on my RESUME. I was currently taking all classes for BB's orientation because I just started. So I didn't feel the need to update my resume for the Nurse recruiter at AA because I had not had any clinical experience yet at BB. So I disclosed this and when they asked me if I had any experience I said no... Now, I have a background check at AA with HR. Will they find out that I am currently working at BB? It's only been two months with BB... I was going to tell HR at AA but they want to call my current employer, etc... so I feel like I should just leave this off... because if they call my current employer they might not like the fact that they are orienting me and I am moving to a new hospital? So they could fire me right? Becuase although AA offered me a job it is not 100% yet. I don't have any criminal record or anything and my current work place is good but I feel that I want to retire at the hospital I recieved my new offer at because I am a new grad.
