  1. I went to St. Kates - Mpls campus, and graduated December 2012. I am not sure what the average GPA was in our class but I do think it is not as difficult to get into St. Kates vs some of the other Community Colleges. St. Kates entrance process (pre-nursing) acceptance is a different process than other schools. I hope that helps. Good Luck! :)
  2. OMT... St. Kates has had lower 1st attempt RNCLEX passing scores than other programs in the past . However, the latest numbers are in and the RNCLEX pass rate for the December 2011 grads is 90.2% Their hard work and changes are showing.
  3. Hi Sejones, I am currently a student in the associate program in the 2nd half of the 3rd semester. I do agree with some of lukeslichys comments and insight. My experience is that it is in fact extremely competitive to get into the Comm. College (CC) programs and I had a 4.0 in my sciences and got in at NHCC. However, during my 1st semester of program I really had a difficult time with how the program was basically "figure it out" even though I was passing I was always anxious and felt like I was waiting for the shoe to drop FAIL!. I never failed but I really struggled with the lack of encouragement in the program and it felt like the instructors just dumped it in my lap and that was that. Now I have to say that others have gone through the program obviously, but it just wasn't for me. I actually WALKED AWAY from my spot and went to St. Kates. Just like you I struggled with the $ and is primarily why I hadn't even considered St. Kates previously but I needed to explore my options. I too am an older student, a career changer, and maybe I expect to have a more respectful and collaborative process with my education. Although it is more expensive I AM TRULY A PROUD KATIE I love my education experience here and all of the instructors are encouraging and collaborate with the students for their success. I have no regrets in changing programs and currently St. Kates has been really working hard to incorporate some great improvements to the program that have been evident during my experience. All in all this is simply my experience and I hope this helps you in your decision making process.
  4. WOW!!! is all I can say to the responses I have received and to all of the responses in this thread. It almost seems that a nurse with years of experience is to be feared and never to be questioned, rather than be humble enough to accept that she/he was not acting with compassion, and in this case safety. As stated earlier in the thread, the patient was needing assistance to go the bathroom not "pillow fluffing". And for all of you negative nellies that are soooooo supportive (not) to new nursing students. It seems like you take every opportunity to remind us how rough it is going to be and almost sarcasticly say "good luck" as if we don't stand a chance in hexx, well you were once a new nurse just like me. My comments is not to be insulting to an experienced nurse but the truth is that the ER nurse treated the patient poorly.
  5. your letter is unbelievably touching and is unfortunately more common place behavior than it should be. i know i have experienced it as a patient, and it always left me dumbfounded as to why these people are nurses. nurses have such a critical role in how a patient responds to care that it just boggles my mind. i do understand being overworked, understaffed, and downright overwhelmed, but every patient should be cared with dignity and respect. i am rn nursing student and a career changer. let me first say that it was a career change by choice and a stirring passion that i am finally fulfilling. there are two instigators to this unacceptable behavior 1. nurses that have lost their passion and 2. people entering nursing because it seems to be "the thing to do" in today's challenging economy and they think that it is a sure thing (which it is not). nursing is a whole lot more than "employment". you see i don't even know if i am going to have a job but i am on my journey with eyes wide open because i want to help people. of all the ebn care that is available at the top of the list would be patient comfort, empathy, and comfort. ps. to all of the nurses out there that are thinking... what is she smoking, and that i may be looking through rose colored glasses i say it may be time for you to rethink why you became a nurse in the first place.
  6. Hi Matt, did you take the Principles of Pharm class on-line or in a class room setting? If you took it in a classroom setting what is your opinion of taking it on-line versus classroom. I know that sounded really wordy but hopefully you get the gist. :)
  7. Thank u for the kudos! Congrats to u as well. I am very excited.
  8. I only applied to NHCC.
  9. Yes, I did get into NHCC... day program.
  10. Hey Stargazn03, did you decide on which shool you are going to attend? Congratulations.
  11. I had a 4.0 in my sciences and I know of 2 other people that had 2 As and 1 B in their sciences (they got in). They also had a very high gpa on the general requirement classes for the nursing program. I hope that helps. Good Luck, I hope your letter comes today with good news. :)
