luvic, i never made the trip to sacramento. when i was finally making plans to do so, i got a letter in the mail saying my license was in the mail lol.

it was really hard to find a job at first. it took me about four months after i received my license before i finally got a job at a SNF. and i was so lucky that i got that job too.

hi sparkle82, the board of nursing let me take the nclex, but it just took way too long for them to review my case (6 months). they sent me a letter a month after i took the test saying that i passed, BUT my case was still pending to be reviewed. no luck yet on the job search. i must have applied at every SNF in riverside county; every facility i talk to wants an LVN with at least 1 year experience. now i'm trying to branch out to orange county to look for a job. it's kind of depressing that i can't find a job.

kdbworkingmom, that was my plan too. i wanted to get at least 6 months in before starting RN. i am most definitely behind 1 year. times are most definitely tough these days. i've thought of relocating to another state, but that is just not an option for me right now. i'm just trying to hang in there. who knows, maybe things will turn around. in the meantime, i'm doing my RN-ADN prereqs at a community college. i just need microbio.

@raekaylvn: I'm sort of hesitant to do home health coming out as a new grad. I've heard so many horror stories about new grads and sticky situations when they first started home health. I feel like I need that extra guidance rather than being on my own for the first time. I know I shouldn't be picky, but I worked so hard to get my license; i don't want to put it at risk. @kdbworkingmom: I got my ticket two years before I even started nursing school. It was just a speeding ticket! They never responded to any of my questions when I emailed and called and sent letters. They said the reason why it takes so long is because they are severely understaffed and investigation goes on a case by case basis. I had a family friend who went through the same thing, and he also said it took 6 months (he just had a minor traffic ticket too). @gina25: i don't know how the job market is on the east coast, but here in california, the job market is horrible. i know i'm not the only one who has experienced it. everywhere wants at least 1 year experience before they hire you as an LVN. my recommendation is to go for your RN. it might be pricey but definitely worth it in the long run. what helped me with finances when i was in school were grants, scholarships, and loans. definitely do your research before picking a school! best of luck to you!

Yes I finally received my license the first week of this month (September 2010). It took forever for The Board of Nursing to process my information because I was told that they were understaffed and operated only by voicemail. They never responded to the voice messages I left or letters I wrote regarding the status of my license. Now I'm faced with another hurdle as a new LVN. It seems like no one wants to hire a new grad LVN . I've applied everywhere in Riverside County and Orange County. Don't really know what to do anymore. I feel like I wasted so much of my time already.

Hi y'all, I live in California, and I know that everything is always delayed here because of budget cuts. Well, I had to report a traffic ticket that was over $300 (a speeding ticket that went up because of late payment charges) on the initial NCLEX-PN application. I received a letter saying that I passed the NCLEX-PN in February of this year, but my case is under review. It's been more than two months of waiting for my license application. I feel like I am wasting so much of my time waiting. I tried contacting the BVNPT many times, but I am always directed towards a voicemail for Enforcement Department. I've left many messages on that voicemail, and I've also emailed them numerous times. I have yet to receive a response. I tried contacting my nursing school I graduated from about this situation, but I seem to be ignored. Is there any way I can expedite this waiting process? I've already sent in the paperwork they asked for (three times). I've also had it mailed Next Day Air. I was planning on making the trip to Sacramento Board of Nursing with all the necessary paperwork they requested and present it in person. If I did that, would it even make a difference? Or would the trip be in vain? Any advice is really appreciated. I'm starting to lose hope...
