  1. cwalton- yes I did take the micro class online and I didn't have any problems at all. The instructor was great and was there to help anytime needed! It was pricey since you have to buy a lab kit and a microscope in addition to the tuition and book. You also have to have a place to set up an incubation box to grow your microbes and really have to prepare ahead of time for the labs. Over all it was a good experience for me. The main reason I decided on the online version was because it is soooo difficult to get into those classes around where I live and I didn't want to risk not having the prerequisites I needed to start Duke in January.
  2. So, I had to check my status this morning to make sure it hasn't changed LOL! Had to verify that yesterday wasn't a dream! Bludevil- I hear ya about the financial aid...so hard to get ahold of. I know they must be busy, but the aid is such a big factor for all of us! Twois said they do usually manage to get everyone the help they need, so it helps a little knowing that. None-the-less, that is my new source of anxiety! NM- Hi and congrats! What part of MD are you from? I was born and raised in the Carroll & Baltimore counties area. Haven't been back there in many years though!
  3. I took Micro online at Ocean County College. It's a little pricey (you need to buy a microscope and lab kit, in addition to the class fees), but super easy to register as a visiting student!! You can fax in the application with unofficial transcripts to enroll! Hopefully they still have openings. Here's the website for info on the course: Microbiology Online at Ocean County College
  4. Teapot- I live in Raleigh, so I don't know much about the Durham and Chapel Hill areas. I kinda wish I could move near the school for closer access, but the clinical sites are all over the area. So, you may be close to some and far from others. I'm hoping to find some other people in Raleigh who might want to carpool! As far as a guarantee of employment, I don't believe that is the case. However, I do believe that we have a hands up to gaining employment with Duke and if you can get a position...the reimbursement program is phenomenal!
  5. Thanks spring! I don't know what to do with myself, I'm glad I don't have anything going on today cause I can't concentrate!
  6. Hi teapot! Welcome and congrats!! I felt the same way after my interview! I tore every bit of it apart in my head!
  7. Spring, I think someone at Duke starts up a facebook group for us, but I'm not sure when. That's what I gathered on other forums.... I can't sit still....I am so excited!
  8. My last name starts with an H, not sure if that helps. I got my email at 9:13am. Did you check the bottom of your application page? It may be there before the email comes?
  9. Congrats spring, glass, and elmo!!! I'm in too!! ACCEPTED!!! :w00t:
  10. You are quick twois! LOL! That isn't too bad, it's a lot of money so I'm sure we are all wondering how we are gonna pay! And I definitely need to know that before I have to make a decision! I didn't apply for the scholarships I wish I had now and I really wish the deadline wasn't until after we find out if we are accepted. My only pitch I could think of on diversity was that I have AB neg blood, since only 1% of the population has that blood type. Thankfully, I have my military benefits!
  11. Congrats Twois! That's awesome! How long after acceptance did it take to find out about your financial aid package? Did anyone on here apply for the 10k scholarships?
  12. Twois- Thanks for all your support through this! You have been awesome! I really appreciate all the great info!
  13. Hmmm....I'll take 1:30 pm....I'll give them the morning...although I like your time better! LOL!
  14. Is it Monday yet? I normally love long weekends, but this one needs to hurry up already!
  15. elmo!! I did the same thing! I opened up my email about 830 this morning and ALL I saw was DUKE! LOL, looks like it's the info session for people who want to apply for the December deadline this year. But me being the over-analytical person I am, thinks...did they send it cause I didn't make the cut-off for Spring? Ahhhhhhh!!! I've received emails about info sessions before though...
  16. Painted, I hope you are right about Monday! I think I can survive that long. I'm really not sure who makes up the committee, but I think M is on it and there were a couple people at some of the info sessions on interview day that said they sit on the board, as well. We aren't supposed to post names on the forum, so I'll send you a message with the 2 names I know....
  17. Hey guys, I just got off the phone with M. She told me that the admissions committee isn't meeting til Friday (BUMMER!!) and that decisions should be out the week of 16th. Looks like there is no chance of finding out this week. Oh, the torture!
  18. ncemt- Thanks for the info...I have definitely considered UNC for my NP, as it is much cheaper and is a great program as well!I will definitely explore all the great options out there. I really love living in Raleigh. There are so many great educational opportunities, as well as awesome places to work! twois- Great advice! I am definitely considering the part time option and it would be crazy not to take up the opportunity for tuition reimbursement (hopefully they will be actively recruiting new grads when we finish up). The new Duke Cancer Center is supposed to be opening in Spring 2012, so we would be finishing up the program at the perfect time. I hear they are hiring around 400 oncology nurses. Could be an amazing opportunity! So, does everyone have medical experience? What did you guys do before nursing? I feel a little inexperienced here. I'm a massage therapist (lymphatic massage was one of the things that peaked my interest in oncology nursing) and I taught CPR/First Aid for 5 years but I don't have a lot of "nursing" experience. I spent 6 months caring for my mother-in-law through her cancer treatments and hospice care, but haven't had extensive experience otherwise.
  19. Painted- I plan on starting my NP as soon as possible, not sure if I will go directly into it, but I'd like to within a year. Right now I'm thinking Oncology, but I want to explore as much as can throughout the program, so we will see...What are you thinking of doing? What are everyone's nursing interests? Maybe some chit-chat will help us pass the time! :) Right now I'm leaning towards oncology, but I also have an interest in orthopedics and geriatrics. There are just so many possibilities in nursing! One of the things I absolutely love about the field!
  20. Breathe in... Breathe out... add chocolate... Breathe in... Breathe out...
  21. I think someone said earlier that they were meeting the week of the 9th-13th? I was just hoping it would be early this week....perhaps I shall call M tomorrow... I need to ask about transcripts for the classes I just finished anyway
  22. I think I've checked at least 5 times today....the only reason I didn't check more is because I wasn't near a computer and my cell phone internet was being flaky! Every time I check, my heart starts racing!! I wonder if they have decided what day the admissions committee is going to meet? Monday down...no results...bring on Tuesday! We got this! My manic side will not win! PaintedSky, what was the financial aid email about?
  23. Spring- I hope we all get in as well. I'm done summer classes and almost wish they didn't end until next week so they could keep me busy until we find out LOL! All I think about is Duke and I am nervous!! I really have my heart set on this program! I asked my magic 8 ball if I would get in and it said "yes"! HA HA!! Here's hoping it's right!!
  24. Good Luck to everyone interviewing tomorrow!!! YOU WILL ALL DO GREAT!!
  25. LOL I'm already stalking...I know there's not going to be anything there yet...but there is always wishful hoping! Next week will be crazy....cause we actually may find out before the 16th. From what I have read on past message boards...the results usually show on your application page first!
