  1. Thanks everyone for you opinions!!!
  2. Hi sorry but what does nety mean?
  3. Hello everyone I appreciate your different opinions. Really I do smile with patients and coworkers but the way I was told I think it went over the top that I needed to smile all the time. Actually I never had a problem before in other jobs. What really bothers me is that is not a patient safety issue but silly things not quality of care but smiling.
  4. Hello everyone I recently had a situation at work and I felt so angry but I dont know if this has ever happened to any of you. At the hospital that I was working start complaining about me, not about patient care but for little things, what really bothers me is that not one single patient complained about me, it was the nurses. I usually very reserved, I dont get involved in the gossip, I keep it to myself. I get called in and they tell me that I need to pretend and that I need to smile more because it looks like I dont care about patients. For this reason among other little things that they dont tell me upfront but behind my back I cant work there anymore. What is nursing all about these days, what has happened to us, why do we eat our young? Why do we have to be fake and pretend and not be ourselves so that patients get to know us just the way we are? Why everything is about money? Just need some advice thanks.
  5. I think the best way which is not the easiest is to talk to her. Be honest and tell her how you feel. I was not good at this but now im getting a little better. Sometimes I would not speak up but must husband supported me and helped me to speak up. I have had to comfort doctors and for the first time talk to my director and the nursing supervisor about htings that were bothering me. Obviously thing did not change much but I was able to get what I felt across. The more you hold things inside towards someone the worse it is for you
  6. 35 per diem Cant remember the differentials 3 years Med surg Union i tink but I dont participate
  7. Unfortunately that is what we have endured and it is sad but it is the truth. I wouldnt recommend nursing patient care for everyone. Perphaps advancing your career or getting a specialty certification would be different. That is what im trying to do.
  8. I agree I did not know either. Schools put it so perfect that when you get to the real world you get dissapointed it happened to me too. I understand exactly what you are going through, I know is very stressful. The only solution I see is getting out of it completly or getting more education.
  9. I agree 100% we are in the front line and we are supposed to catch all the mistakes but why is it noone can cath ours??
  10. I agree that nursing does not have the prestiege it derserves; I believe we do a wonderful job but we dont get the recognition. I think we only get called for the mistakes that we do. I dont think nursing schools give you an accurate picture of what nursing is really about and I think is very deceivefull. Any way I think you should consider another career
  11. wowwww now my questions is why do we allow this to happen?
  12. That's kind of harsh; personally I always hold the medication if its less than 60. But I agree that parameters should have been given to give or not to give
  13. Its ok dont beat your self, these things happens especially when you are busy. Just dont do it again
  14. I have worked in similar conditions, I usually have 7 patient aside from admissions and discharges. I have counted in one day at least 10 patients. It is draining I understand but at least the patients on the unit are not that critical. Whe get codes one in a blue moon otherwise I would be terrible. I have had pca pulled out but never secretaries there is always one on the floor. That is defiently unsafe practice; I would recommend you and your husband to look for another job.
  15. I would have done the same thing; I think that unfortunately for the most part hospitals are governed by doctors and they do as they wish but is not fair that they did that to you because you were concerned for the well being of the patient and if something had happened it would have been your fault!
