  1. Yeah I heard that with Nursing nobody gives a crap where you graduated from (with getting your Bachelors). It's just that I want to get into a program where I am guaranteed to get my degree in 4 years, or at least where I'll be most likely to get accepted.
  2. I'm a chick lol... I visited Mills college, as soon as I visited the campus I wanted to turn right around and get back on the freeway. I guess i'll visit it this summer and TRY to give it a chance... But an all chick school doesn't sound appealing at all ): Went to St Marys... BEAUTIFUL school... and I love their approach to education. It's more of a liberal arts/Lasailan approach if you're not familiar with the program. Yea yea, people tell me who gives a crap about that, just get your degree and go. But I can see myself enjoying my 4 years there thoroughly... I just hate tuition (50k/year!!!). But it's stuck between St Marys & USF if I had to pick a private school..
  3. You provide a good point. My cousin wanted to help me with deciding which schools to go to, and she said that I have to make sure that the school is accredited. I know all the CSUs are accredited, but i'm not sure about the private schools. The only ones I'm really looking at, just so everyone knows, is USF, St Marys, and Dominican.
  4. Oh I see. What about Dominican Univ or Saint Mary's?
  5. Thank you so much for all the info (: So did you do it purely on getting good grades and studying hard in your classes, or did you also do anything extra such as volunteer or become a CNA? I've just heard it's tough all over to get into Nursing schools, even if you have exceptionally high grades & scores. I hope I'll have study habits like you have lol...
  6. I'm happy for you all that got into Sac State! I heard that it's really difficult to get into the program, probablly the most difficult out of all the CSU's... Glad you guys worked hard, how much did you have to do just to get in though?
  7. At first, I thought you were talking about SCC in California lol... But that's good to hear that you got into the program, congrats! Your hard work paid off, and if you work just as hard you'll finish Nursing school in no time!
  8. From what I have researched, with Nursing it doesn't really matter what your degree is, or what school you graduated from, as long as you are a licensed RN. I've heard of lots of ADN-BSN programs, which aren't too impacted with people, depending on the area and school you apply to. Just be aware of the ADN admissions and how competitive it is to get in. I don't think it affects your goals at all if you plan to get your ADN and you don't stop there.
  9. Wow, people from UCLA are actually transferring to other schools for Nursing?! What has this world come into?!! Sorry, I know so many people in my grade and in the graduating class that practically broke their necks just to get into any UC's, my friend was devastated because he didn't get into UCLA or UC Berkeley... That's why I'm feeling better about trying to go into a private college directly out of high school so I won't have to worry about competing with so many other people to get a place in the CSU. I also like the smaller classrooms at private colleges, I prefer that rather than a huge lecture hall of 300 students. Of course, nursing school won't just be a walk in the park...
  10. The only direct entry programs I know of are mostly private colleges... Which are expensive. I was planning on going for the BSN anyway. Thank you very much for your advice, if you can, private message me:)
  11. I am currently a high school student interested in going into Nursing. I've been hearing all about how difficult it is to get into Nursing schools, how new grads aren't finding jobs, how there really isn't any nursing shortages, etc. Despite all this, I am still interested in going into Nursing school. Right now, I live in the California Bay Area, and I have considered going as far as Hawaii, LA/San Diego for Nursing school. I am considering going into community college first then transferring to a CSU, which is obviously the cheaper route. However, i've been hearing what people have to do just to get ACCEPTED into the program. Volunteer work galore, straight 100%'s on their Teas exams, everything. The alternative to this is going to a private college, and I'm looking at schools such as Dominican, St Marys, and USF. Obviously it is A LOT more expensive to go to, but there isn't as much competition, and a 4 year guarantee is something that I really like. What should I do to make myself look better when I turn in that college application? As in where to volunteer, what classes to take, etc... Thanks!:)
  12. Haha, I guess that is true... It's just that I want to be able to prepare for the future as best as I can, I don't want to end up like a lot of my relatives. Jobless, broke, in debt, the list goes on... I would also consider anything in the medical field other than Nursing, as long as it has good pay & benefits & jobs are plentiful. Hopefully things do change, but I seriously doubt it... Good luck w| going back to school though! :)
  13. I was actually planning on doing my community college classes (the GE part) while in High school so that when I did graduate, I would only have a year left of completing GE and I could apply early into schools like SF State, or Cal State East Bay. Then the option of private colleges came up, and now i'm wondering what's a better deal. And now that I hear there was never a nursing shortage in Cali and that there are so many people saturating the Nursing field, AND that it's hard for NG's to find a job, it makes me wonder if I should even become a Nurse at all? Ugh, I hate deciding my future!
  14. I live in California, and i'm actually way too young to be even thinking about college (lol)... I'm currently a high school Sophomore. But I am very interested in becoming a nurse, and i'm wondering which route is the best road to take for my Nursing education. I am stuck between Public (CSU) campuses and Private universities. Weighing out the pros and cons of each situation, I know that going to a community college first then transferring to a CSU is most definitely the cheapest financially. However, because of the economy, and school budget cuts, it's getting more competitive to get into the nursing schools, more expensive (doesn't beat private tuition, though), and it gets tough to register into the classes you want. Then there's issues like graduating on time, class sizes, etc. With private universities, the biggest con is the expensive tuition. But through scholarships, grants, financial aid and such, the sticker price becomes more affordable. The pros to me is that you are guaranteed to graduate in four years, small class sizes, not as much competition, and once accepted in the program, you get into all your classes without much difficulty. I'm still stuck on which route to take, because they both seem great options, but which would be better in terms of my chances of getting in and completing the program (on time), and which would be more likely to get me a job soon after graduation? Thanks!
