US nurse going to scotland. How does the nursing differ?

Thank you thats very encouraging :) yes, I am currently volunteering as an RN, but unfortunatly it is at a free clinic and its not full time so i'm not quite sure if that qualifies. but i do have just under a year of RN work expierience, so im almost there! I'm guessing that LPN expierience doesnt count? I'm really not in a big hurry, when I move there next fall it will only be for 9 months so it wont kill me to not be able to work as a nurse yet. I just want to know that the option to work in the UK will be available to me some day, as i will eventually move there permanently. does anyone know if getting my BSN online will affect the likelyhood of me getting accepted by the NMC? is there anything i can do to boost my chances while still early in the game? thank you all so much, you have been most helpful.

US nurse going to scotland. How does the nursing differ?

No, I have not done any of this yet, as I have not yet completed my BSN here. I am a bit nurvous about meeting the requirements. I know tht since the NMC rece somently made new guidlines alot of nurses from the US have had problems working in the UK because they do not fill the 2,400 clinical hour minimum.

US nurse going to scotland. How does the nursing differ?

Haha, thank you! that is truly genuine advice! I think that i'll probably end up in edinburgh, that is where my boyfriend is studying. I actually met him volunteering at a hospital in Romania. His best friend lives in glasgow and i definitly have to question about 50% of the words that come out of his mouth! the local slang is like a whole new language! thanks again for the tips....I'll be sure to turn down any whisky challenges while im there...

    school, nurse, midwife, midwifery, CNM

If I get an RN degree, and a bachelors level midwifery degree, is there a school that will offer me a way to mesh the 2 together to become a certified Nurse midwife? or would i have to take a completely seperate RN-CNM bridge course? I am absolutely possative that these are the two degrees that i want to pursue, but how can I mesh them to make a more sensable degree?

    options to midwifery, whats best?

correction - i am almost an rn, but i want to become a midwife. what is the difference between the work that i would do with my bsm (bachelor of science in midwifery) and the work that i would do as a snm (certified nurse midwife) ? and how much schooling does it take on top of rn to become a snm? or if i chose to ignore my rn degree, what is the best flat out aprouch to becoming a midwife? my ultimate goal is to volenteer internationally, with the choice to practice in the states. thank you!
  8. If I have My RN, and bachelors of science in midwifery. Is there a program out there that will allow me to advance to a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, certified nurse-midwife (CNMs) or certified midwife (CMs)? being an RN and having a BSM degree, how long will it take to become a certified midwife or nurse-midwife at a masters degree level? is such an upgrade available? the midwifery school that I want to go only teaches up to a bachelor's level, is it possable to advance to a masters level in midwifery at another school? thank you!

If I was a registered nurse (RN) and also a had my Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM) would that make me a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)? If not, what does it take to be a CNM if I am already an RN? I have my heart set on a midwifery school that only offers Associate of Science in Midwifery (ASM) and Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM). Thank you so very much!
