  1. I am a pediatric nurse and our unit spends a lot of time with children with encopresis. I would recommend that you talk with your pediatrician about your sons soiling. He/She may refer you to an Gastroenterologist. The pediatric Dr. we work with is absolutely wonderful with his patients. Usually he will start out with high fiber diet and mineral oil. There is a prescription medication that works wonders. It is called Miralax. It is a powder that can be mixed in with liquids and had very little taste. The kids do great with it and they are usually very proud of themself when their stools become regular and comfortable to expell. Good luck.
  2. Thanks for the info Vicky. I'm printing it out as we speak to share with my staff.
  3. Hi, we are in the process of attaining Magnet status at my hospital. And up popped this new concept. I am in charge of starting up a Shared Governance in my unit. I don't have a clue on what it is all about. I have the same concerns as others: Is this just to look pretty on paper? Or does it really work? Any advice will be helpful.
  4. Beaner posted a topic in PACU
I work in a pediatric hospital in the PACU. Since we do not have a night shift staff all of us PACU nurses share taking call for emergency surgeries. Currently we have 2 RNs on call during those hours. However, we are wondering if other pediatric hospitals use LPNs or PCTs in their PACU as the second person - along with an RN? I know that adult PACU settings can use either LPNs or PCTs as the second person. Does anyone have any information regarding this issue?
  5. Zacarias, thanks for responding. Yes, I do have hemifacial microsomia and had multiply reconstructive surgeries as a teenager. Actually, I was one of the first patients ever to have surgery to help correct the anomoly. I am the only one in my family with this syndrome and none of my 3 children have it. My reason for inquiring is that I have never come across another patient in my years of nursing with this syndrome. And I am a pediatric nurse so I would think I would have seen another case. I am curious to see what kind of surgeries are being done now-a-days. By your description we have about the same amt. of involvement, mine is on my left side too. Also, my left eye is smaller than the right and I had a dermoid cyst in the left eye and decreased vision in that eye. Have you had reconstructive surgery?
  6. Does anyone have any information about this syndrome? Has anyone cared for a patient with this problem? :uhoh21:
