  1. I'm a new grad in a MICU (6 months in) and I'm trying to sort out my future career plans. My original goal had been to get a few years under my belt, then do the FNP/DNP route with a specialization in public health. Healthcare for the underprivileged has always been important to me, and I'm all about preventing illness rather than treating it. I really wanted to be able to organize free health clinics, etc. Now that I'm a real live nurse, I'm considering nursing administration or research. It drives me crazy when I see other nurses not follow recommended standards of practice (like rinsing off the chlorhexidine bath they just gave). Or patients being "snowed" on a vent for nurse convenience. I would like to find some kind of balance between these two interests. I won't be going to grad school for a few years, my boyfriend is in the middle of getting his PhD in molecular biology (which has also given me a love of epidemiology), but I would like to have an idea of what to look into.
  2. Thanks for helping me out!! I ended up using mostly canesdukegirl's information, but I kind of worked everyone's experiences in. I ended up making a 97, so I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to y'all.
  3. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out!
  4. Hello! I am having to do an interview for my intro to nursing class, and I do not know any nurses.. I would appreciate it so much if someone wouldn't mind answering a few questions for me! I will use an anonymous name, and I will be writing a paper comparing your answers with nursing journals. The questions are... 1.What kind of education or training did you undergo for your nurses career? 2.Why did you decide to pursue the career of nursing? 3.What kinds of tasks do you in a typical day? 4.Are you a member of any professional organizations? What kind of involvement do you have in this organization? 5.How do you use new research in your practice? How do you stay current with new information? 6.How has the nursing shortage impacted your practice? 7.Describe some stress factors in your work environment. How do you cope with these demands and how do you avoid burnout? Thank you so much!!
  5. I'm still waiting for my acceptance letter too :). I was wondering if anyone is looking for a roommate for the fall? I'm trying to go as cheap as I can, and I have furniture minus a kitchen table. I'm 23, quiet, and will probably spend most weekends in Denton :) :) :).
