  1. I have been in dialysis so long I don't know what the salary for someone just starting would be. They like you to have some medical background. We start at 5:00am, some work 8 hour shifts some work 10, I think all dialysis centers are different. Patient load is different for all states. My state has no max that a dialysis technician can have. In Mass I believe the max is 3 patients for 1 staff member. Lucky them. Good luck :)
  2. Hello JessiBoopCNA, I have been a dialysis technician for more then 15 years. Now (working per diem). I learned everything I know about dialysis on the job. There have been many advances over the years in the machinery and knowledge about the disease. Dialysis is very fast paced at times and you should be very organized and be able to multitask. In my opinion you either like dialysis or you don't. Last year I got my certification CCHT everyone at the unit I am at are now certified. If you want any questions answered and I can help I will try
  3. If I could take away this thread I would. It seems as though that a lot of nurses have opinions and are replying to it. To luvthegsp it isn't a lie it was a real thing that happened in front of about 12 patients and staff at a dialysis center.
  4. A few years ago the cruelest thing I heard a nurse say to a patient was: PATIENT: "If I were thirty years younger I would ask you out on a date" NURSE: "You are half a man, I would have to say no" (The patient was an amputee) That is just mean. He laughed but I know it must have really hurt him. I couldn't think of anything to say to make this situation better. How about you, what is the cruelest thing you have heard?
  5. I will stay per diem at the job I have now. I got a job at a local hospital in a different position and I can't wait to start. I am sure it is going to be difficult to learn something new after so many years. It will be a welcomed relief to know I can say "yes" or "no" to the unit I am currently working at. Here's to new beginnings:yeah:
  6. I am sad to say I am leaving my job of more then 15 years due to attitudes of co-workers. I can't stand the back stabbing of everyone. They call this on a b_ _ _ _ _ and then nice to her face same with the next person. And I have seen them laugh when they see that person struggling. They are actually hurting the patients by not helping. It has gotten so bad at my unit that it is taking a toll on everything we do. I almost feel like the girls I work with like to see each other fail. Pretty bad for a profession that you are suppose to make others feel better. I am hoping the new job that I am going to will be a more positive place to work.
