KCC ADN Program Spring 2011
Aloha, Accepted to KCC ADN for Spring 2011. Finally. Hurray! (excited but anxious!) I'm wondering if any current students or graduates can give any insight into what we new students can expect the first semester? I'm assuming that everyone has their co-reqs completed, which means there are only 2 classes the 1st semester, right? It looks like we have 4 days/week in class/clinicals? I'm just going off what is on the KCC website, so apologies if I'm uninformed. I don't yet know anyone who is in the program so can't ask questions (hence - this thread!) Orientation is tomorrow, but any additional info is always helpful! Such a major life change ~ just want to be as prepared (mentally & physically) as possible. Thank you Thank you Thank you! ~ for any advice, experience, etc that you can offer! Aloha,

University of Hawaii-MEPN PROGRAM...anyone heard about it?
I applied for last Spring ('10). I had a 3.7, strong recommendations, finished prereqs, got an interview, didn't get in. Think I mostly bombed the interview, which was brief (15 min?). Keep in mind, there are a LOT of people vying for not very many spots, so you have to be strong all the way around. I had all my academic & paperwork ducks in a row, but think my mistake lay in not preparing for the interview as thoroughly as one would a job interview (i.e. doing all the research, role-playing, etc). Had I to do it over, I would take those extra steps to stand above the rest of the (already-highly-qualified) crowd. Just do your best in all areas - well rounded is a great trait - and remember that 'somebody' has to get those spots, so it might as well be you - go for it! And Best of Luck to all the 2011 applicants!

Hi Hollownurse ~ yipes. The 71000 is crazy expensive, for sure. And yes - it will be worth it but the COL is definitely something to consider, so don't write it off (not trying to scare you! I just know that it was a huge adjustment for us, coming back from mainland (CA - which is pricey as well). So just keep it in mind & be realistic about your budget - you don't need the extra stress as the 1st MEPN year will be hard enough. Anyone have anyone thoughts on scholarships/grants/loans? This is new to me coming back to school, so any input is helpful. Thanks much - and congrats to those who got their acceptance! I'm still hanging in! :) Aloha,

Thanks for the reply - at least you know now, even if it's not the ideal news. Sigh. I'm going to try the email route you suggested (no Spring break for me!) - to have a firm footing at least, on my status. I wonder what the decline rate is for those who are acceptance but can't afford to live in Hawaii due to COL? (wishful thinking on my part perhaps?) Anyways - best of luck to you & thanks for the heads up! :)
