When I worked in an acute/cronic unit based hospital dialysis center.... We had a room and Acute dialysis room within an ICU unit that allowed us to HD our "stable" in-house hemo patients, also in doing this it allowed for us to run more than one "stable" patient at a time. If your #'s are anything like ours was, you need to do more than one patient..... to get out the door before midnight!

I agree with you to some extent, but as I have found, it's better to error on the side of caution with this issue. As much as I would like to say that all cuffs are cleaned b/t pts, I know they are often overlooked during a busy turn around.

At the unit I'm currently at we follow universal precautions... With the addage of a disposable cuff that the patient does take home and return with each tx. We don't disinfect the machines after these cases-- the bacterium are too large to pass through the fibers of the dialyizer negating any need for disinfection of the machine.
