Hello everyone! I have some questions and I would greatly appreciate input. Ok, I am 40 years old, soon to turn 41. I don't have a degree but I have my STNA and almost have a certificate in Administrative Medical Assisting. I am newly divorced and have been struggling with finding my identity. I have worked in both the legal field and the health care field. My dream is do Forensic Nursing. To me that is kind of the best of both worlds. I am very limited on my loans as I have just about used them all up. I may qualify for a small pell grant so I don't have alot of funds to pay for school. I found a decent LPN program that is 10 months. I have also found a very good RN program but as we know there is going to be a long waiting list for clinicals, so it may end up taking me 3 to 4 years to get my RN. My question is do I go ahead and do the LPN, start working and then go back for my RN? I am hoping to get on at a hospital as a PCA or Unit clerk while I do my schooling so I can obtain tuition reimbursement which will help in paying for my degree. I have had some people tell me don't do the LPN, they are phasing them out, it is a waste of time and money and then others tell me go for it. It is quick and I can work making decent money while going back to get my RN. I feel that getting my LPN first would be beneficial and only help when going back for my RN. I really don't know what to do. Anyone out there that can lend some advice I would so appreciate it!!! Thanks a bunch!!!

Does this school offer financial aid or do you have to pay out of pocket?

Hello to all..just need some input from people that might be going thru something similar. I am a 40 year old divorced mother of three. I want to be a nurse. I have wanted to be one for a very long time. Thru my miserable marriage I accumulated over $50,000 in loans with no degree..I went part time for years with breaks inbetween but maxed my loans each quarter to live. My husband at the time was disabled and I worked but didn't make much, so we had to survive. We were younger and did things we wish we hadn't now. Since I am now divorced and at a good point to go back to school and get this done I am discouraged for many reasons. I know I can't get very much in loans now and there is no way with just grant money I can pay for an RN program. I have been approved for some grants and small loans for this school year but nothing near what some of these schools want for tuition. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio by the way. I have appointments with a few schools this week to see what options there are if any. I am thinking that going the LPN route first might be best and then going back for my RN or BSN. Just would like to know what people think or if anyone has gone thru this? Am I too old to start nursing? Is going the LPN route the wrong way to go? I am terrified I will go thru it and then there will be no jobs for LPN's. Any input is appreciated!!! Thanks so much!!! Sarah

Heavenly4505 are you still attending the LPN program at Cincy state? I am wanting to attend but need an evening program. I didn't know that they had one? Do you know if that is still the case???
