  1. It seems like, from a lot of the posts I've read, that RN's that work thru an agency have very low compensation. Some nurses have written that the pay is about half the amount, or like the pay of an LVN. Could an RN be self-employed, rather than going thru an agency? Would he/she need to know a lot about business? Thank you for the answers. :)
  2. I am a nursing student and have been thinking about becoming a nurse practitioner. If I worked in a private practice, what would be a resonable expectation of income? Since I am starting late in life and may only work 10-15 years, would it be worth it financially to start a private practice rather than just working in a hospital or doctors office? Should a nurse practitioner work for at least a few years in a medical establishment with a salaried position in order to get experience before starting private practice? Thank you for the answers!
  3. I am a nursing student in the Dallas Fort Worth Area and am interested in jobshadowing a nurse practitioner. I would like to shadow a female in a private practice, if possible. Does anyone have advice about the best way to go about this? Thank you for your time!

  5. Hi, my name is Mary. I have finished almost all of my core classes except for one, and will not have enough hours to be a full time student next semester. Though I have not been accepted into a nursing program, I was wondering if it would be possible for me to take a few nursing classes from a community college, and then hopefully attend a 4-year university the next semester. Do universities generally transfer upper-level hours over into their nursing programs, or is it usually required to take all nursing classes from the university? Thank you very much!
  6. Does anyone know when will we be able to know for sure if a phd will be the new requirement? I am a sophomore in college, but have been really thinking about becoming a nurse practitioner. Thank you.
