  1. Well. I've done a lot of science courses already for the RN program such as A&P, Microbiology, chem, and such and I was planning on applying for the program this coming spring...right now my GPA is 3.5. How much more school would a NP need to do to transfer over to a M.D?
  2. Hi All, I'm currently working towards a nursing degree, I'm only getting my associates degree first which hopefully I should start next Fall, and then I plan to transfer for my BSN...I'm 25 years old and now I'm kind of thinking what if I could become a medical doctor? I don't know but I think that I may feel regret if I don't try but I don't know if I'd be making the right choice. My main educational goal is Nurse Practitioner though, by the way is it true that they will be upping the education level for a NP to a Doctorates degree in 2015??Any advise would be much appreciated.
  3. Yea I put in my apps for Stafford Hospital, and INOVA, but I didnt see any openings for Prince William Hospital. I'll double check. which one would your hospital be more likely to hire, a EKG tech or phlebotomist with EMT cert?
  4. lol yea, thats why I want to do the phlebotomy tech program, but I think maybe the EKG tech would be nice to take as well.
  5. The way I had gotten my EMT was by volunteering with a rescue squad, but I left about a year later since there was a strong lack of training and most of the people there were pretty keen on making their "thirds" life much harder then need be. I do plan on going to a different station and getting back into it though since right now I only work at a retirement home as a EMT and its not challenging me enough.
  6. Thanks so much for all the replies, they were all very helpful:)
  7. Yea its a bit much...it's being offered through the community college nearby as a continuing education course. I might as well just keep trying to get a job as a tech with my EMT-B cert instead of spending all the money on the other certs.
  8. thanks, I'm still hoping to get a call back. I may do the EKG tech program...but I'm not sure if it will help me in landing a hospital job or not, just not sure if I want to spend $1200 on it. Perhaps if I was a NREMT I would get a call back lol
  9. Thanks, I would in fact like to take both but I can only take one at the moment. I'm wondering which one I should take that the hospital would want more. Unless they would plan on hiring me just as a EMT and then training me.
  10. Hi All, I just had a question, I'am currently an EMT-B looking for a hospital job in northern VA. No luck so far, I'm wondering if I should take a EKG tech program or Phlebotomy tech program to better my chances as well as give me a head start on my career in nursing. I'am currently trying to get into a nursing program, do nurses learn the previous mentioned skills or would i be better off spending the money to get certified now? Any advice u can give me is much appreciated. Thanks, Tammi
  11. hwcats67, Hi, thank you for your post. Thats a good score on the TEAS, I'm very stressed out over getting ready to take it due to the short amount of time that I need to take it by. I went to NVCC's medical campus to get more info on the nursing program but they made it seem like it was such a hush hush program, and they just told me to go online, even though I already had all the info that they offered online. They wouldn't even tell me the times and days for the program either. When I went to Stratford, it seemed more friendly, plus I kind of like going to smaller classes considering you could get more attention from the teacher. I'm 24, and NVCC is ok but I don't care much for being around some of the immature party people. Even though I could save a lot of money at NVCC, I'd haveta wait a whole year from this fall that is if i even get accepted into the program, since I've missed the deadline for this coming fall program. I've already taken almost all the of the pre-reqs for NVCC, so Dr. Khan said all of those such as anatomy and physiology, and microbiology etc.... will transfer to Stratford. Thanks, Tam
  12. hwcats67, have you taken the TEAS?
  13. Hi everyone, I'm also interested in Stratford's BSN nursing program. I went there this past Tuesday and spoke to Dr. Khan, who was very nice and explained a bit about the program. I'm kind of worried that maybe employers would hire based upon where you went to nursing school at. However I did call a couple of hospitals and they said that they do not discriminate against where you went to school. I was going to NOVA but I'm unfortunately going to miss the deadline for the fall program. I like the idea of stratford considering you are working towards your BSN and not just your Associates degree. Hopefully I'm not making a mistake by not doing NOVA's program because they are quite respectable. Have any of you taken the TEAS? I'm trying to get prepared to take it by this May so I can get into the fall program at Stratford. Hwcats if you have any advise or answers for me that'd be great, I think I might try to sit in on a class if I can. Who knows, maybe we will see eachother in class lol. Thanks, Tam
