  1. In your original post you had stated OU-Chillicothe as an option as well. I have spoken with a few people there and there is not currently a waiting list. They start three times a year. Fall and Spring start are normal starts. The winter start is actually a program at Berger Hospital in Circleville. Their tuition is not all that much more than CSCC or COTC. From Downtown Columbus, the drive to OU-C would only be about an hour and 15 minutes, which isnt all that bad. Most of the classes should transfer as well from what you have taken at CSCC or COTC. I know for myself, they are my backup, meaning if i get "waitlisted" or whatever as CSCC, then I will be attnding OU-C. Just because it is a bit of drive doesn't mean you should rule it out.
  2. OSU Campus area is not too far from Capital University. However, that being said going from OSU campus to Capital can be interesting depending on the time of day. There are definately more housing choices around OSU campus but you need to be more careful on where you chose to live. There are pockets of pretty dicey areas, and often times, parking is a pain in the rear. You are going to pay a premium to live in the Brewery District, Short North, Arena District, or Grandview which is not far from OSU campus. If you want to be able to walk to class, you are better off looking around Bexley.
  3. There are some areas that are close to the interstate that are about a mile south of Capital University as well. There are several apartment complexes that look pretty nice. You may also be able to rent in Bexly (the suburb where Capital is located) however you would probably need to have several roommates for that to be pratical.
  4. I got in for Summer Quater :) Thanks for all the info. I now know if I need to, I can schedule a 3rd class for the quarter :)
  5. Thanks so much for the responses. The registration for Summer quarter opens on 4/26 and I needed to figure out how difficult that class would be so I would know what to schedule with it. Thanks again!!
  6. CSCC that I am speaking of is Columbus State Community College. So is Nurc 101 the backround info and then NURC 102 the actual hands-on?
  7. Is there anyone planning on taking this class during summer quarter? Also, if anyone has recently completed it, how is the course? Is it overwhelming? Is it more book stuff than hands on or visaversa? Thanks in advance :)
  8. I wish you the very best of luck tomorrow. Please let us know how it goes for you. Thank you for taking the time to answer this post. I do have some more questions for you but I will send you a private message in a few days.
  9. A lot of the private schools such as Chamberlain are "for-profit" so it would not shock me to hear that they get a comission or something for getting you enrolled. I don't think I could justify spending 4-5x on my education when I can get one of equal or better at a state school that is not for-profit.
  10. Mike and Barlowjb, Thanks so much for the responses....it means a lot. I believe my turning point in wanting to do something to help people is when my husband unexpectedly died. Since then I have inside wanted to help others but had to get over my own issues first. During the time between his passing and the last summer when I really made the decision I was just trying to get through the day and provide for my kids. I got laid off last summer and had to take a job I HATED with a passion in the same industry and actually made less. We made it work. I thought hey, I need to go back to school. Thankfully the job that laid me off called me back. Now that I have more disposable income I can go back to school. I work in the finance industry and I dont work in sales...i work in operations so we are always the first to go when layoffs happen. My mother doesnt see it that way but you all are right. She will eventually come around.....even if its rough for a while.
  11. GOBUX90 - What system did you get in with? Is it one of the hospitals where you also have clinicals? What school are you going through? My family and I are wrestling with staying in Columbus area or moving to a more Rural area where my Fiance's family is from so we can live better on less...(wont have to pay for daycare and such)
  12. Thanks for your replies everyone. Yes, I do live on my own. I have two kids, ages 9 and 3. This is not something I grew up wanting to do but several years ago I had something terrible happend and my husband at the time passed away. Since then, I decided that I wanted to do something to help people. I have always been intruigued (SP?) by the medical field and I have done tons of research on the field and spoken with many nurses I know. Most of them are completely fulfilled careerwise with nursing and they make it a part of who they are. I feel that I would be great at this as I genuinely care for others and I believe that the patients would actually end up doing more for me than I would for them :)
  13. Anyone else feel like their family is not as supportive of your decision to chose nursing as a career? I am currently 26, almost 27 and have a very good paying job (Considering I do not have a degree). I have entertained the idea of pursuing nursing for about 3-4 years but circumstances wouldn't really allow. Now that they do, it seems as if my family, in particular my mother thinks I have gone out of my mind wanting to do something as difficult as nursing. My fiance is super supportive and is doing everything needed to make sure that I can still work and attend school. But my mom seems just annoyed by the whole notion and would rather me just stay where I am at.
  14. Is there anyone currently enrolled in this program at OU-C, or have completed the ADN Program? What do/did you think of it?
  15. That's interesting. Good thing is regardless of what i decide to do as far as the actuall program itself, I will still be doing NURC 101 and 102 at CSCC. I wish all schools had the ability to offer classes in the evenings, as i would definately consider COTC, OU-C and the like. Too bad I didnt make up my mind that this was what I wanted to do back in high school or this process would have been much easier and I would have been more flexible! Best of luck to you on whatever you decide :)
