Home care nursing for New Grad
I shouldnt be giving any advice since I'm also a brand new nurse, but I think that before you start at any organization you should find out about their orientation. I was just hired to work as a long term home health nurse (visiting non-acute patients), the orientation last about 3 months and after i'm done with the orientation they will slowing increased my case load, so far everything i've heard sounds great!....the reason they hired me is because I'm fluent in spanish and they needed a spanish speaking nurse. I do have 7 years working as an EMT so I'm used to going into patients homes and driving around the whole day, but I do understand that EMT experience and nursing experience are not the same.Ideally I wanted to work at a hospital and then go into home health since is something that always caugh my eyes, but I had no luck finding a hospital job and I didnt want to let this opportunity go. We new grads need jobs and nobody wants us, try it out if you think you cant handle it then quit....don't risk your license. Good luck!!!!:)

NCLEX-RN Exam on April 2011, need motivation?
Hi all...I graduated last January, I'm taking the nclex at the end of this month, so far everyone from my class that have taken the nclex have passed with 75-78 questions, this is how they studied ....they are doing questions from the nclex 4000, every time they encountered a question that they didnt know they would write down the topic, go to their old notes or the book and read about that specific topic, so that's exactly what I'm doing. I believe that just by doing questions and reading rationales is not enough, we learned a lot of stuff in nursing school, if you have an idea of what they are talking about when they ask you a question in the nclex, you have a better chance to pass....example they ask you...what will you do with a child with talipes valgus(i think that's how its spelled) if you have no idea what talipes valgus is most likely you'll have to guess. When I do questions I pick the topics that I know I need to review, I know I'm really good with cardiac and resp so I don't bother with those, but I'm weak when it comes to peds and pharmacology so I'm reviewing those. BTW, go over pharm and learn LAB VALUES that's a big one, know levels of digoxin(0.8-2.0), lithium(0.8-`1.2) they might ask you...a pt is receiving digoxin and his serum levels are 1.5 what would you do...not give it, give it etc...you know the deal... i also heard there were a lot of questions on chemo drugs, and don't stress too much on peds so far everybody that has taken it only had 1 or zero questions. I hope this helps a little bit, good luck to all!!! I hope i didn't bored you to death

I changed my last name right before graduation ;(
Hi all, I'm extremely confused . I made the huge mistake of changing my last name before graduation (on my Social security card). I submitted a form to my school 1 month before I graduated requesting a last name change, and they never changed it, so now I'm applying for my license and I don't know which last name to use. When I was filling out the pearson vue form for the nclex they ask if I was ever married and what is my maiden name...I'm soooo confused, I don't know what to do, I called the department in charge of licensing and they said to use my new last name since everything has to match my SS card, but then my school said to use my maiden name since that's what my school knows me as. Please I need some advice, I will greatly appreciate it.

Is Trinitas School Of Nursing
You are right, Trinitas doesn't care about their students. I'm in nure 232. Made it to 232 without dropping or failing, but I'll tell you this, It's been hard,I had a very hard time on nure 131, why...I don't know, But yet I passed 132 and 231 with a B, so don't feel bad. As mrs genius said, no nursing program is easy, but we need to understand that every one is different, and if you feel that you can't handle it, you know what to do. She has no right to put you down, you might be capable of making it to NYU or where ever you want, you just have to trust in yourself and give the best of you. Trinitas is hard and I've met a lot of really good students, that would be wonderful nurses, but have failed. Some people are smart, they're just not good test takers. Let Mrs genius laugh and try to put people down, I would love to meet her at NYU, I actually work there as a paramedic....
