What to expect $$$ wise in Southern Florida
Thanks. I was looking to make $30/hr but I'd take a cut to get away from the cold/miserable weather!

What to expect $$$ wise in Southern Florida
I'm looking to move down to South Florida (Sarasota, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda) and I was wondering how much to expect to get paid. I'm just about done with my BSN and I have 2 years of RN experience. I just want to make sure I'll be able to be comfortable financially. I've had it with snow, thirty years of shoveling in MA was enough for me.

hospitals in massachusetts aren't hiring RN's without a BSN now. You either need your BSN or at least a year of med surg experience to even get looked at. One person out of our class of 62 that grad. in may has gotten a hospital job. it stinks.

Do hosptials consider correctional nursing, nursing experience?
I graduated with an AS degree in RN 7 months ago and the hospitals haven't been hiring new grads. Nursing homes and correctional facilities certainly are though. Correctional RN's make $8-10 more an hour than the acute rehab in a LT facility I'm at. My question is would a hospital see correctional on my resume and say that doesn't count as much as acute LT care. I need the $$, but I'd take the hit and stay at the nursing home if I knew it would pay off in the long run. PLEASE HELP!

I'm in the same predictament, but the other option for me is correctional nursing vs. LT acute rehab. correctional makes $8-$10 more an hour, but does a hospital recognize correctional nursing as nursing experience? I don't want to jump to yet another job just to have them say that your time at the jail doesn't really apply to what a hospital is looking for! I also do nursing in a detox per diem and it's great..as a per diem job :0)
