Okay.... here's another one for you.... Headings Things like Introduction, Discussion, Summary are primary headings... correct? Things like Nursing opportunity would be a secondary heading thereby left alignment... yes? haha, I think I need a class on APA alone. APA for dummies. (got the book, but still have questions, I'd rather not loose 75 pts. due to an APA error).

Thank you Lisa, I kind of thought that would be what I needed, though didn't see it the first time. You would think if the instructor asks for your "rough draft" they would actually provide feedback. I use an online citation generator, but don't always trust it. I kind of feel out on my own in this class (not that it was difficult), but emailing the instructor with questions hasn't proven to bring answers. I'm glad there are so many people here willing to help and advise. I think I've spent more time on citations than writing the paper. I actually left some stuff out that I might have used if I'd have figured out how to cite it.

Hi students, I have to submit my paper today and I'm having a bit of trouble finding how to intext cite a source. Source is web page definition (not a dictionary). I thought I was correct with using (n.d.) then I saw in small print "last editorial review xx/xx/xxxx". Does that mean I cite that? I'm going with the n.d. unless anyone else has had any experience with this. APA printed material does have a few areas that are not easily defined. Thanks in advance for any help. I wrote the paper with ease, now finding the citations is a bit more challenging. )

Thanks, that's a great idea. I don't care about paying for them, but would really like to avoid paying for books that I don't use. I'll check that out.

How important is it to have them? I'm taking NR361 next semester A - none needed and NR443 (Community) semester B - "requires" a textbook ($89). Anyone have any input? thanks in advance

Hi, I can't comment on the taking classes at a community college, I guess that is a personal choice. Maybe someone else can assist with that part. The APA is the American Psychologist Associations citation and professional writing style. It's crazy! I'm getting a little better at it, but it's a bit tough to figure out if you're "old school" like me. The computer format is pretty straight forward so you should be fine. There are many great people here that can lend a hand as needed.

First of all, I just wanted to thank everyone who offered so much advice to me while I was doing my online school search. I went with Chamberlain. I'm half way into my first class - Transitions. It's been good. I've developed a routine with Sunday morning lessons, research for postings and any other house keeping items needing to be done. I copy and past my postings on Monday and respond on Tuesday to reach the 2 postings guideline. So far, so good. I pulled a "teenage" mistake on my APA Hunt and typed right when I clearly meant left and missed a few on that....grrrr. I have struggled a bit with the APA guidelines, still think it's crazy to write that way, but am catching on. I just signed up for Cultural Diversity and Information for Summer A and Algebra (still not happy to be taking that over again) and Community for Summer B (good bye summer.... guess it will be work by the pool). I've registered for Stats and Collaborative for Fall A and Fall B will be History and EBP. I'm hopeful that I can do 2 as easily as one has been, but it will take a bit more organization. I will see how 2 classes go and maybe add a third one of these semesters. I did consider Kent State University, but they wanted so much retake I felt it was unnecessary. The cost was the same and they were much less helpful. I understand how people feel when they say Chamberlain seems 'pushy'. They did contact me a lot when I was 'looking' into the program. Luckily, they haven't stopped being as supportive or reachable should I say. They have been wonderful with retrieving my transcripts, financial planning and class registration. Kent was less than helpful getting started and didn't return calls placed to check my transcript evaluation. Maybe it was who I spoke with at both facilities. Best of luck to those making the same decisions ..... it's an overwhelming thought when getting started.

dln, I also am in Transitions at Chamberlain and chose Chronic Illness for my paper. I found quite a bit of useful information on the online Library they have. I did a bit of google searching. Good luck!

I'm kind of with you. It seems like a little like experience demonstration to me. I can, but haven't received a college degree to show you (which is sort of where I am now in my career). I could be wrong entirely and do not mean to discredit anyone who has gone to WG. Maybe I'm just old school and don't know enough about the program to understand it.

Alright, I'm set to start Chamberlain next week and now I'm getting nervous. So of course, I muddy the waters. What can anyone tell me about Western Governors online BSN or MSN programs? I'm a bit confused looking at their information. No classes? Competency Units? It is tons cheaper than Chamberlain, or any other program I've looked into. Are these degrees recognized? What is a "mentor"? I imagine you'd not be able to use the degree at as prep for another university because there are no credit hours of education, right?? Questions, questions, and more questions.

Hummm, that's a good question. I monitor the inpatient chemotherapy, but not in OB. I know those nurses are not chemo certified. I'm going to have to look into this. I'll get back to ya.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I think I'm gonna need them. :) To answer some questions: I chose Chamberlain partly due to this forum and a girl at work is doing the program, working full time and enjoying it. She said, as many do here, that it's writing intensive, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. I'd also looked into a few local universities and in the long run the cost would be the same. The cost of the credit per hour vs. the amount of classes to take put Chamberlain in the same ballpark. The school is accredited so I feel it will be fine. :/ I've never taken an online class before. I have posted all over the web so I think the posting won't be an issue if I can participate in the graded discussions with some items that are worthy of being graded. I'm nervous about it all now. Power point is easy, yet complicated. Ha ha does that help? I've done a few for the middle management job I have now. I have to justify staffing, costs, hours of operation, etc., so I present graphs, numbers, projections and the like. How did I learn, trial and error. I've wanted to get my BSN for 15 years, why, that's a good question. I feel it makes me a bit more marketable and if push comes to shove, I need it for my job, to keep my job in this ever changing health care market. There have been positions I was unable to apply for due to not having a BSN. I have dreams of becoming a NP, but I'm creeping up in age and who knows if I'll go that route. I've got a window of opportunity between one child graduating from college and one a year away. This is my year. Can I afford it? Not really. Would life be easier if I didn't go back to school online or otherwise? Sure! But, I'm forging ahead anyway. My adviser has been wonderful making things less complicated. You can find a great group here that is in or has done the program online who are willing to help. So far so good. I worry, but I'm jumping in the big pool without water wings. Come on join me, we can hold each other up. Hope to "see" you in class.

It looks like I'm registered for N351 for Spring B. Anyone else taking the plunge? I'm only taking one course this semester because I have (unless they take it away) tuition reimbursement that will cover the cost while I set the rest of my funds in order. I'm quite a bit nervous. I keep saying, "what am I doing?". I'm trying to further my education, make myself more marketable (nursing sure is changing) and getting my feet wet in case I do decide to go further. If I was younger I'd go for NP ..... I'd be all over that. Maybe I'll further that education with an MSN Nurse Educator. Maybe I'll decide the BSN is the stopping point. Who the heck knows! I've got experience to beat the band..... but I'm nearing 50 so I'm trying to be realistic.

Thanks all. I have one question. Will my degree say "online"? I guess I am still nervous.

I just got notice that I have been accepted to Chamberlain to begin April 26th with completion by July 2011. Talk about short notice. Anyway they are giving me 84 credit hours. I've also just heard my daughter is 3 credit hours shy of her graduation for May 2010. Looking like Mom waits again. Ugh! How quickly excitement fades.......

I had a similar experience at first, but I made it clear I'm "fact finding" and not looking to commit myself. One thing I can say is that my admissions adviser has been most helpful and answers all my questions. I've also applied to local universities that won't even return my phone calls/emails. Dropped like a hot potato after then got my admission fee! I'm still waiting for transfer credit evaluation. I think my nursing school dropped the ball somewhere!!!!!!! I've called Kent State University 4 times asking if they have received them..... nada, not one single call or email has been returned. Chamberlain is at least trying to track it down. YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!!! Thanks for letting me see your program info. I don't recall taking any history classes but I've got a boat load of Psych credits. Oh and no foreign language... eeek! I've done a few business courses a long with english, sociology, college algebra, chemistry (I'm not sure it was organic or fundamentals) and A/P 1 and 2, oh and of course, everyone's favorite micro. I went into college after a few years of "finding myself" with a poor GPA so I did a few semesters of catch up work started out in Respiratory Therapy then transitioned into nursing. I might just be okay.

They have come to our hospital with the information so I did look into their RN-BSN program. They require clinicals so I have not looked any further.

I am also considering Chamberlain. I'm waiting on transcript evaluation at this point. A girl I work from the hospital is in her last semester at Chamberlain. She talked highly of the program, lots of papers but she did go full time all the way. I think it took her 14 months total to complete. I can't find the pre reqs so I am curious to see what gen ed classes I am missing. I have a 3 year diploma and a few semesters general ed when I couldn't decide what to do with my life .... had I known what I know now...
