  1. Maxdog, I would definitely say that your family contribution was the determining factor. I put down that my family wouldn't be able to contribute any money, which is true; therefore I did get the $11,000 scholarship. In regards to placement, I haven't heard of anyone wanting to put themselves through a four hour commute twice a week; seems slightly masochistic! But I'm sure you can speak with professors and they can help you work something out. Are you definitely starting in the fall? What specialty did you choose?
  2. Thanks :) I graduated from Quinnipiac last May. I'll probably be moving around then myself. What brings you to New Haven? Do you know where you plan on living yet?
  3. Thank you ZMRMNA! You pretty much outlined my entire pro/con list; you are quite informed! I actually made my decision last week to go to Yale. I went to undergrad in CT and love New Haven, I MUCH prefer small class sizes, and I really need my summer off to unwind before starting such a big endeavor. Thank you again!
  4. I was accepted to both Yale and Columbia for the psych NP specialty. Can anyone help me decide?!
  5. Hey there! I have never posted a "thread" before but have used allnursing throughout my whole graduate decision making process and have found everyones' input to be a tremendous help. My blessed conundrum is the following: I was accepted into both Yale's GEPN program and Columbia's ETP program with a concentration in psychiatric NP. Has anyone been through either of these programs that can give me some advice? I've analyzed each program to a fault and made lists upon lists with pro's and con's. I'm leaning toward Yale for the simple fact that their program starts in September and doesn't require pre-reqs. I'm in the process of completing my pre-reqs for Columbia now, but classes will not end until May 21 and Columbia's program begins June 7th. YIKES! However, I do not want fear to guide my decision process. It sounds to me that Columbia offers more clinical sites, more emphasis on psychotherapy, more time for working experience (after the ETP year...which by the way terrifies me!) and has the benefit of the city excitement. On the other side of the spectrum, I went to undergrad in CT and am familiar with/comfortable with the Yale atmosphere, Yale is ranked higher according to US news and world report, there is a higher passing rate for the NCLEX exam and it seems to provide a more friendly, supportive community environment. If ANYONE could provide their opinion/professional experience, I would be beyond grateful. Thank you!
