  1. Hi! I know this post is older but I have an interview for a cardiology outpatient clinic coming up and have the same questions. Did you end up working there and if so what kind of stuff do you see and do? My background in Neuro ICU/trauma, so cardiac is a little bit out of my comfort zone but not something that I'm completely unfamiliar with. I want to be prepared and have some expectations for the interview.
  2. Hello, I know this is an older post but I was wondering if you had any luck with employment. I have just moved to newnan and with 2 years ICU experience have found it difficult to get into the hospitals in the area. I have had a couple of bites from some clinics but only part time with a 45 minute commute. I am really looking for something that will be worthwhile and driving that much just for a part time job didn't seem to make sense.
  3. arinafl, sorry but I am not active enough to do PMs, lol. To answer your question though, I worked at Tallahassee Memorial for 2 years. Hope that helps!
  4. $30/hr is very good, but Tampa general is a well known magnet hospital in Florida. In Tallahassee, base pay for someone with minimal to no experience is 20.53 with small increases for certifications, bsn, etc., and then you get shift difs on top of that. In Jacksonville the starting rates I believe are in the mid-20s, or at least that is what I have heard from friends (couple years ago). I grew up in a suburb south of Jacksonville (Fruit Cove) and it is a very nice area with excellent schools and minimal crime. I highly recommend it! :)
  5. Hi there! I read your private message but I'm not active enough on here to be able to reply, lol. Thanks for your input. I have sent off the application for my GA license and am still waiting for approval. In the meantime, I have done just some simple vague job searches online to see what is out there, which is pretty consistent with what you have said. I'd really like to get on day shift, lol. I guess I won't know for sure how the market is till I start applying. One of my coworkers down here used to work at sheppard and really loved it. I just really don't want both my husband and I to have huge commutes every day. I've also thought about slowing down a little and trying to find an office job now that my husband is the big earner in our household. Are you aware of any offices that hire RNs in the area? I know these can be especially hard to find so I'm not getting my hopes up. I also worry that I will lose my ICU skills. So I haven't been able to convince myself that this would be the best move for me in the long run, as nice as it sounds right now, lol. If you don't mind my asking what rate does RN pay start at the facilities in Newnan? I work for a non for profit hospital now so the pay is what you'd imagine, lol
  6. Hello All, My husband recently got a (non nursing related) job in GA. We will be moving to Newnan soon, a small town compared to what I'm used to, lol. I graduated in FL with a BSN in 2012 and have been working night shift in a neuro ICU for the past 2 years. This pt. population consists of strokes (ischemic and hemorrhagic) , SCIs, TBIs, and traumas, as we are a trauma center as well. This is my first and only RN job experience. I was just wondering if anyone had any information about local hospitals/facilities, or advice/tips for finding a job in the Newnan area. I don't know if the hospitals in this town focus on this pt. population and I'd prefer to Not commute to Atlanta. My husband already has to make an hour commute to rural GA for his job and it be great if I didn't have to do the same as well. I'm a little nervous about moving on to a new job in a new place with new coworkers! I get along great with everyone I currently work with and those who have taught me everything I know in this setting. I've had a great experience learning and working with this challenging, yet interesting group of pts. Its time to start a new chapter and job hunting is the most nerve racking part!
  7. When I was accepted to FSU? or FSU's College of Nursing? I was accepted to FSU right out of high school with a 3.5 gpa if that's what you're asking. When you graduate with a bachelor's and want to seek a second one, you apply for readmission to FSU. When I did this, I think I had somewhere around a 3.35. This is what I had when I was accepted into FSU's college of Nursing. I thought this was a low GPA based on what the website says, but they (thankfully) don't weigh their entire decision on this, lol. Good luck!
  8. When you ask your boyfriend "What should the blood pressure be in my car's tires?" The sad thing is that he casually answered and didn't even notice!
  9. congrats jess8806!!! I was stalking the mailman these last few days too. I sent that pink form back so quick! Can't wait till they tell us more info.
  10. I just got my letter today and I got in! I'm so excited! Hope everyone gets some good news in the mail!
  11. Does anyone know how many people applied this year? (fsu-traditional BSN for Fall 2010)
  12. I don't know why the first 1/2 of my post isn't visible, but just click and highlight it to see the whole message.
  13. i already have a bachelors degree (in art history, haha) and have spent the last year knocking out pre-reqs for fsu's traditional bsn program but i am nervous about my gpa. i have already applied to the con and the app. deadline has ended. we are just waiting for a decision at this point and the more i think about my overall gpa, the more i freak out. my science gpa is a 4.0, but because i had no intention of going into nursing while i was an undergrad the first time around, my overall gpa (in my opinion) is not competitive enough (a 3.4). their website says that 3.6 or higher is the average for incoming students, which worries me. i have done all i can do at this point but i can't help but freak out while waiting for a decision! also, i did very well on the hesi-a2. does anyone know how much weight they put on the science gpa v. overall gpa and hesi scores? and how many students apply to fsu's traditional bsn program on average each year? part of me is like "why do they care that i got a b in northern european renaissance art?" but the other part of me is like "our grades reflect our performance as students...etc." i'm torn about my overall gpa and need some input please!!!
