  1. I am a PCA in Kansas City and the pay is much different I am sure, however, the pay depends on a lot of things. Full time PCAs make LESS then PRN (as needed) but PRN people do not get medical benefits. Also, there is a 15% difference in night shift and an 8% difference for weekend shift. Call some local hospitals, talk to HR and ask what the start PCAs at. They should tell you, if not call a different hospital
  2. I am in the same situation. I am in a BSN program and I am not sure which way to go after graduating...Acute care Nurse practitioner ( which seems to be the quicker, easier, less paid option) Or go to CRNA school (more competitive, more intense, more $$) I would like to do either so is it worth the time/energy to become a CRNA?? I am also curious about job opportunities for NPs. I do not want to work in an office environment. I want to be in an ICU, ER, OR or CCU..is this common jobs for an NP? This is a huge choice and i dont want to make a mistake Good luck to You~!~
  3. I am in a similar boat. Hosever, I am not yet an RN. I am in an RN program debating what to do when I graduate. I am very much interested in CRNA school (which I need ICU experience for) but i love children so i could get peds experience and be a pediatric NP. Alot to think about!!! What I do know is that an anesthesiologist is a Doctor and will require a pre-med degree adn then ofcourse acceptance adn completion of a anesthesiology med school. Good Luck~
  4. I live in Northwest Missouri. Base is 9.50 i make base 11.11 as PRN and nights are another 1.65 weekends are an extra .88.
  5. Maggie- I am graduating from my BSN program next semester and I am very interested in CRNA school. 2 Questions... 1. Every school has different requirements that I did not take for my BSN (organic chem, biochem, inorganic chem, genetics, physics)It seems each program prefers something else. Should I take ALL these classes or are certain ones more necessary and helpful, because some schools say...take any 2 of these chem classes or something. ALSO should i take these classes during nursing school (like summer) after nursing school before i appy to the CRNA prgram, or after i get accepted to a CRNA program. 2. After you graduate as a CRNA...then what? I have read there may be an internship and then residency before you are on your own. Is this true and if so is it paid adn how long does it last? I am trying to figure out how many months I will be without a job adn income.Lastly, is it true that it is not good to work during that program?? Is working PRN, such as 1 shift every OTHER week..is that a possibility. any advise is GREATLY appreciated!!!!! -Kate
