  1. I have toured the units. The level III NICU (40 beds) is very impressive. The nurse manager and nurse educator gave me a tour and introduction to the program. I was blown away by their sincere love of what their department offers. The L/D dept is on the same floor, adjacent to the NICU. The department is getting a new manager in December and the area is expanding with new construction. I believe they are going from 8 LDRs to 14. My interview was with the educator who was also very personable. She also offered me an extern position in L/D until graduation. I love the world of maternal child health and hope to someday be a professional in both areas. I am so torn...it seems most people on these threads have also recommended the L/D route first. I also posted to the OB/Gyn Midwifery Board.
  2. I have just been offered my choice of internships between L/D or NICU. Both in the same hospital with the same type of educational programs....I need advice on which area to accept. I have an equal interest and passion for both...This decision is a very important one and will shape my future. This is truly a dream come true...I never expected to have a choice of both... Please give advice. :balloons: Luck is where hard work and opportunity meet. Buddha
  3. Graduating Dec 2004...have just been offered a choice between NICU or L/D...both at the same hospital, with a contract & sign on bonus....it is really a dream come true. However, I never expected to get an offer for both depts are the same day! I have spent months agonizing over what area of nursing to enter into for January. I have a great interest in both areas...each has strengths and weaknesses..I just do not want to make the wrong decision.Has anyone been through both areas or been in a similar situation....I need advice please.
  4. $17/hour is very attainable in Ft. Worth.....I live in Dallas and I am graduating in Dec 04....the going rate at the larger hospitals is an average of $18-19/hour plus shift differentials and benefits...etc. Good luck to you...the pay will probably increase by the time that you are finished!
  5. In the state of Texas, unemployment cannot be paid if they know that you are attending school.....you cannot quit your job and receive unemployment insurance....the emphasis here is "if they find out you are going to school". What they don't know will not hurt them of course. You must have lost your job due to no fault of your own... and be looking for work....this is up to interpretation. There are programs available through workforce centers that provide training in nursing to laid off workers...however usually the programs are out of money...
  6. I was never convicted....the attorney appealed and the case was dismissed before ever reaching court due to lack of evidence. I am worried because if I check yes to arrest on my application it will put my application into investigation mode...maybe for no reason. However, if I don't check yes...and the background check lists the incident (which it shouldn't) then it could cause more delay. Its really a no win situation...
  7. The PI was overturned for lack of evidence...so there should be nothing on my record, but I just don't want any problems..Thanks for your response
  8. I am getting ready to graduate in Dec-that means filling out my application to the Board...in 1996 when I was 21 I got a public intox...but it was appealed so it should not count against me or will it? ( now I am 30 yrs old) Has anyone got a similar story? What should I go? This is my first post to this board...Thanks
