Would Emt certification help to get into the ED?
Ok thanks all for the info.

Would Emt certification help to get into the ED?
I got accepted to nursing school this August. I work in the ED not as a tech but a patient transporter. Very hands off in terms of patient care. The tech positions are given out by managers to favorites and the main girl doesn't like me at all but I digress. Eventually want to be an ER nurse. Would an Emt cert help? I don't plan on ever going into the field at all due to a DUI on my record.

Yep I'll be in the fall class but haven't received my letter. Kind of jittery about it. Please post when you do so I'll have a timeframe and I'll do the same. My lottery rank was top 30

Applied to 15 community college nursing programs across California.
Most of them are lottery, the rest, about 3, maintain waitlists. What are my odds of getting in the first year I apply? All prereqs are done and everything. My list of CC nursing programs I've applied to: De Anza-waitlist Solano-waitlist Cabrillo-waitlist City college of SF Ohlone Evergreen-Not selected American River-not selected Merrit Chabot Chaffey Riverside Santa Rosa Golden West Forget the last 2. So far been shot down by 2 lotteries. Is it hopeless? Are they truly randomized or spots in future nursing classes doled out by administration's favorites? Should I make plans on skipping the wait, and applying to private nursing programs, thereby adding more student loans? Need some perking up here. Would love to hear stories about peeps getting selected right out of the gate.

Is it me or the nursing home/staff?
And if worse comes to worse, if you don't like that nursing home, just quit. Plenty of job openings for experienced CNAs even with a few months of experience under your belt. My first gig was with a SNF that was family owned and operated which meant jackshit when it came to professionalism. The DON was an unapproachable *****, the nursing staff barely spoke decent english and lazy as hell and loved pointing fingers and never gave support. It trickled down to the staff, hence the high turn over of CNAs. Remember, Nurses need you more than you need them. Unless you're at a real professional workplace and are making good money.

Already burned out...
/Agreed. My first gig as a CNA at a SNF I would LOVE to switch places with activities director. They'd crumble in a heartbeat.

Whats Night shift (11pm-7am) like?
Got a new cna gig working the NOC shift at a bigger company after a few months of day shift at a much smaller SNF. During the day shift, I'm showering, feeding, clothing, changing diapers, grooming and stuff and barely had time with all the number of residents we get. (8-9). some questions..Which is harder? Is night shift more relaxed? What will I be doing more of? I hear I'll be just changing diapers and turning patients. Are there things I need to know with NOC shift? Thanks.
