LPN programs in Calgary/Bridge programs to RN in Canada
Hi BrittanyC, wondering how the program is treating you? I am honestly thinking of taking the bscn through athabasca now due to some major mishaps from the school i was attending for an lpn access to bridge in Vancouver at VCC. Basically myself and several other LPNs from alberta were very unhappy with quitting their jobs to come out here and not find out until later that there is a waitlist until 2014-2015. Also my Anatomy and physiology credits were not recognized although they should have been since i have a bow valley diploma through the red deer college program. Things really change from province to province. Because of the huge misinformation to lpns from alberta and mis credits to each and every one of us, they have finally changed the site information after a very political and pathetic meeting with the head of department. VCC i found most unprofessional and misleading because of all the voices you speak to over the phone in admissions and in person. Anyways, Back to my main point... How far along are you and how do u find the program yourself? I hear it is much faster, one of my instructors recomended it.

LPN to RN through athabasca
Hi lpntobn.... so i've been doing courses here at vcc to get into the 18 month program in vancouver... and let me say it is totally not worth it for the misleading internet information. there is a 2 year waitlist... and i'm not even sure if i am on it. All the work moving out here for nothing... so I know i read in another thread that you had completed your program through athabasca in octoberish? i'm not sure... but congrats and you have been inspiring. I may move back to alberta and reapply for the athabasca bridge. Well, I guess I was just wondering... how long did it take you all together to finish? now that you are done? Thank you!

Athabasca University LPN to RN progam
I understand thanks :) I only have about 100 hours left to collect now, and i guess its takes a while to process all the paperwork to get evaluated for admittance. But i'm still wondering for if anyone who's done or in the midst of the LPN RN through athabasca if they had to ask employers for time off work to schedule in clinicals? or if you ask for a LOA? I'm not totally sure but it would be nice to know what to do in the future. Thanks

Athabasca University LPN to RN progam
I just signed up as an unclassified student for a stats class from Athabasca University. For people who've taken the Post LPN to RN program through them, I was wondering how you scheduled your clinicals? I know there are some lasting a few weeks at a time, but Did u have to ask your employer for time off to do so? I'm a fairly new grad so i'm thinking that starting at a new job and then asking for time off for clinical could be touchy. Any advice would help... thanks!

Athabasca University LPN to RN progam
Thanks guys this is all great and helpful information. How long did it take to get your BC license? I've been looking into it and it looks like i need to apply to write an exam to get registered? Or "permitted" to work there. After you wrote the exam did u work under a temporary license? I'm really hoping to get there by october of next year but all they have is casual positions for now. And was it hard for you to find a job when applying from a different province?

Athabasca University LPN to RN progam
Hi everyone, i've got a couple questions about the athabasca program too. I'm currently registered in with the CLPNA but am looking to move to Victoria BC to work and live. I'm a fairly new grad only been practicing for almost a year now. But im wondering if I would have to keep a license as an LPN for Alberta the whole time throughout the program and be practicing in alberta??? And at the same time i would need to gain a license from CLPNBC to work out there once i move. If this athabasca thing doesnt work out, does anyone have any suggestions for transition programs in BC? SOOO CONFUSING!

LPN to RN through athabasca
Hey thanks a ton for your input! I've kind of been trying to collect my own little census about the athabasca program so any info is helpful. so 3 and a half years. Guess it would take me a while anyways to complete it. Did you find it was hard to dedicate time to your courses after work? or are the courses quite simple? Renting rooms for clinicals is a great idea. I'm definitely going to look more into this program. thanks!

LPN to RN through athabasca
Hey everyone, this is my first post. I am an LPN looking into the bridging program through Athabasca University. Since its a distance learning type program i was wondering if anyone has completed it or is in the midst of this program. If you have i wonder how long it takes? and How hard it is? If its possible to do in 2 years? I really want to move to BC and work and live there so if i had to do the clinicals i would need to move back for a total of almost 3 months spuratically. So i guess i'm also asking how is the outlook for jobs in BC for LPNs? THanks a ton to whoever replies i feel a little flustered!
