RN Grad looking for a RN opportunity in California
Hey, thank you for the responses. Thanks for the insight on the cost of living up there. It's pretty bad down here in Houston for new grads. I'm getting the replies to try outside cities (which I am doing), but I'm not looking to raise a family in Temple, or Corpus Chrisiti. My goal is to move to CA (especially berkeley). My wife (+5yr RN) and I are pretty much set on that. I've applied at some openings at the correctional facilities and other hospitals in nearby cities (san Leandro, Palo Alto, etc.) Thanks again, and I'll keep you all posted on my endeavor. P.S. would two experienced RN's be able to make in the San Fran/ Berkeley area with the cost of living and the current RN wage?

RN grad looking for a RN opportunity in Houston
Hey, thank you for the responses. I feel a little better knowing that I'm not the only one in this boat. For a minute I thought it was just me. I have an ADN and a 3.0 GPA from Houston Community College. It seems that the facilities are taking BSN over ADN, but I still apply. Thanks for the heads up on MD Anderson. I did apply for their internship as well, but I will definately make it to the career fair. I think Texas Women's will have one in Galveston next wed as well. I applied at the VA but I get no responses at all, not even a rejection email or letter. At least with the other facilities I get some type of response. I even try calling there but I get a voicemail box that won't accept messages b/c the box is full. Maybe they're being bombarded with applications. I'm trying to be more optimistic but this is not a situation that I was ready to deal with after graduation. At this point, I've sent applications to Corpus Medical Center and Dallas. If I can get an internship in Houston in June, that'll be great. But if I don't make the cut, I really need a contingency plan. I have alot that's riding on immediate employment (loans, baby, and bills). Thanks again, and I'll keep you all posted on my endeavor.

RN Grad looking for a RN opportunity in California
Hi, I'm a RN grad and passed my NCLEX in October 2009. I've been searching for a RN position in Houston, but I have been unsuccessful. I've applied for the June 2010 Internships but if I don't make it in June, then I'd have to wait until Jan 2011. I've been applying to all types of facilities and I get the same response, "you have less than a year experiece" or "you need to apply to our intern program." My wife and I are getting frustrated and thinking about relocating to California. We've been talking about moving there for quite some time. We're looking toward the Berkeley, San Fran, or even Oakland area. I am looking for a permanent full-time position. Are there any hospitals in that area that would hire a RN grad? Please point me to the right direction. Thank you

RN grad looking for a RN opportunity in Houston
Hi, I've passed my NCLEX in October and I've applied at pretty much all of the hospitals in the Houston area (Med Center, Katy, Woodlands, Kingwood, Sugarland, and even Conroe). The response that I get is that I have less than a year experience. I've applied for the upcoming internship programs coming in June, but I feel like I'm putting "all of my eggs in one basket." I didn't get in any of the programs for January 2010. If I don't get selected, then I would have to wait another 6 mos. Is there anyone that is able to point me to the right direction? I'm open to all specialties. Thank you!
