First Nursing Job
Ah yes- everything is all computerized now! It is so impersonal! I hate it! I have been getting the same. When I first moved to Tx I oriented with a home health company. And they offered me a job yesterday- so I am going to take it. I really don't want to home health- mainly because as a new nurse- I want to build my skills and the hospital is where I want to be. So I will work there until something comes up at the hospital. I really want to do cardiac ICU. I love it. I was often floated to the Unit when I worked in Fl- the nurses were great! They taught me so much! Have you called HR at the hospitals and explain your situation? I think it is hard to get into a hospital with some religion affiliation. I will keep you in my thoughts!!! How do you like it so far in San Antonio?

I am sorry to hear about your hard-ship! That must be very discouraging as well! How long have you been in the US? Where did you apply to?

First Nursing Job
I am getting so discouraged! I am a new nurse trying to get a job in Corpus Christi, Tx. I have excellent references and I was a student nurse in school working on a cardiac step-down unit. Any pointers!? I have had a few interviews at Christus Spon. Everyone seems to be scared to hire a new nurse.....so how the heck are we suppose to get experience!?

New Nurse- possible agency nurse?
I recently got my license and am actively looking for a job. I am living in the Corpus Christi area. All of the jobs I have applied for at Christus Spon have either turned me down (no new grads in CCU or ICU) or just never heard back. OR I never hear back from Bay Area hospital. I have also been in contact with the HR of both systems. It is very frustrating. I have an outstanding resume. I was recently contacted by an agency. They explained that I would take assignments in the area at local hospitals and I can pick what areas I want to work. It is full benefits and starting pay is 27/hr. I asked them if I would be properly oriented to the system of the hospital and the floor. It sounds really good. Do you think that this is a safe job for a newly licensed nurse? Or should I pursue obtaining a job in the hospital?

Post mortum care mourning :(
I agree scoutsmom! It's an awesome thing- no I think its an honor to be there for that person and hopefully a comfort to that person passing. It is very humbling. But you can't let it interfere with your life and make you depressed.

Things you only learn on the floor...
I learned so much as a student nurse....lets see.....little bubbles don't matter in the IV....people are all CRAZY! Just depends how you control it. Everyone has mrsa or something gross. Wow, I can't even list it all!! I will learn even more now that I am a RN!!

Post mortum care mourning :(
Honestly, you have to get over it. Yes, it is weird because its not everyday that you see/handle a dead body. But you can't let that get to you- you are going to see far more crazy/wild things in school/career. If you are going to let things like that interfere with your life to where you are getting quiet and not wanting to do anything- I would suggest finding another career. It is okay to reflect, that is normal. Hang in there.

What I studied for the Boards
Hi everyone, I just want to let you know if you are looking for some study advice. All I did was read the Saunders Book 2-4 times and did the CR-Rom that came with the book. Also I read the ATI book 2 times. I passed the board with one attempt. Also make notes on things that you did not remember right away.....such as labs, burns, renal....anything that you aren't sharp on. Read those everyday. That is what I did, hopefully this will help!!!!
