Help! Hospital sent me home b/c of my back pain
I unfortunately injured my back about 10 days ago (outside of work). Initially, they pain was so severe that I called off of one shift. I returned to work two shifts... I was limping, but I wanted to go to work to show that I am not a flake. I am relatively new to this ER. After those two shifts, I came to work Monday. As soon as my manager same me, she insisted I go home early. I rested/iced/medicated and went to the chiropractor for SIX whole days. I returned to work today, only to have the house supervisor see me limping around. She called my manager and my manger (over the phone) again insisted I go home, and not return for tomorrow's shift either. My question: can a manager legally send you home (state of California) if you don't have a contagious illness? I may walk slow, but I was still performing my duties as an ER RN. What are my rights as an employee? Their argument was that "they didn't want me to get injured further"

How to reduce bruising with Epogen sub q
I am giving subcutaneous home injections of Epogen my mom every 2 wks in the back of the arm. I know this med can cause bruising. The last one I gave left a softball sized deep purple bruise I don't want to do this to any of my patients, but let alone my mom. I gave the med once in nursing school and I remember my preceptor saying there was a trick to not bruise. I can't for the life of me remember why this is. I am a new nurse and haven't even started my job. Any help is appreciated!!Oh and as an FYI I am giving one ml in the back of her arm

Opportunity? Helpful or Hurtful? Help Please!
I agree with the above statement as well. The medical terminology is also a great foundation for what you have in your future. It never hurts to get a headstart!

Gauging how prepared I am for NCLEX?
From what I have heard (but no personal experience here) the lippincott's questions aren't as difficult and don't have the same question format as the actual NCLEX. Just to be safe, maybe look into some other testing practice. You can even check your local library...like ATI, Kaplan, Saunders, Mosby, etc. personally, I did the Saunders iPhone app, ATI, and some Kaplan. Took my nclex a few days ago. Finished in 75 questions and I have gotten the good pop up :) good luckhttps://allnurses.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8697&%3Bd=1310274877Also check out that link. Great info :)

Personally, I took my NCLEX RN just a few days ago. I got 75 quertions on the NCLEX and the good pop up :) I bought the Saunders RN app for the iPhone. I completed all the questions in the app, and read most of the rationales. I chose it over ATI because I already had access to the ATI question bank thru my university. I also bookmarked a lot of the hard questions on the saunders app to practice them again. The app was very helpful and the questions were very similar to the questions on the test. I also used ATI a little bit and got access to my friend's Kaplan q bank. Overall, I did about 2000 practice questions. I also reviewed important lab values and got the Kaplan book from my local library...free! :)https://allnurses.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8697&%3Bd=1310274877That is also a veeeery helpful link I used! :) let me know if u have any other questions

My NCLEX Story, Please read to be inspired!
That's great news!!! CongratsI also found the Saunders RN app on my iPhone helpful. The reason I chose it over ATI was I already had access to ATI through my school. Te Saunders app had about 1000 questions as well with rationales. I just took my NCLEX RN friday with 75 questions and the "good" popup! :) now I just have to wait it out. Good luck to everyone out there!

CA BRN and NCLEX issues
Yes I had success this morning as well! :) I called ad they did have my transcripts. They said it just takes about 3 weeks for things to get sorted out of the mail room. So now I just have the pain staking wait to get my "official" results so I can keep my job! Good luck let me know if you have any other questions.

CA BRN and NCLEX issues
From the time I applied to the time I received my ATT was about one month. In school I did have rotations in peds and maternal health. For studying, I read the Kaplan RN NCLEX books. I got them from my local library, so they were free! I also used an app call Saunders RN on my iPhone to complete about 1000 practice questions. I also completed Kaplan's practice questions and questions through ATI... Which put me at a total of 2000 practice questions. When I first started doing them, I used rationales and then did them without. I also made a list of important lab values to study. I studied for about 2 weeks before the test, but I am a good test taker. People usually need more time to prepare

CA BRN and NCLEX issues
I am guessing you can because they let me as well, but I know they won't issue the license without final transcripts with posted degree.

CA BRN and NCLEX issues
I received my permission to test from the CA BRN about three weeks ago. Also with it was a letter stating that they hadnt received my transcripts. I called the Ca BRN and they stated that I needed to contact my school. I contacted my school and they said they had mailed my transcripts December 9th 2011. I took my NCLEX RN January 6 2012. I was just wondering what I should do next? The BRN stopped accepting phone calls because they are so busy and in undated with calls. But I need my license ASAP. I have a job that starts Feb 6th and it requires a license. Not just an IP, I have that. Also when I took the test it was 75 questions and I got the "good" pop up. I just don't know what to do because both places are saying to contact the other. And both the BRN and my university are far from where I live now. My classmates have already got their licenses. Help is appreciated

Am I going to be a good nurse??
I am going to be starting my 4th quarter out of 7 of a BSN program. So far, I've completed Med Surg I and II and Psych. We are moving on to Peds, L&D, Critical Care, and Community Nursing. One year left! I am just nervous that we are already done w/ Med Surg and I feel like I don't know what I need to know. I.E.-- When I get a job, I feel so nervous that I don't know enough or that I am not going to make a good nurse. I know I will learn alot with experience, but at the time, I feel like I'm not learning enough in school. I don't want to make a fool out of myself as a new nurse. Our program is a little accelerated....but IDK, does anyone else feel like this??
