  1. You have to have 72 hours of class room time and 12 clinical hours to take the test. The Red Cross gives them all the time and different hours are available. Good luck!!
  2. I am a new CNA at a rehab hospital. I am noticing a trend within the hospital of the staff not using the standard precautions with patients in isolation. There is one man with MRSA and the physical therapist does not use gloves, a gown or mask. The Patient walks around the halls without a mask. Everyone looks at me like I am crazy when I gown up and I am hesitant to put on a mask for fear of overdoing it and offending the patient. They also treat me as if I am crazy when I question why no one is talking precautions and that I show that it worrys me. I am worried I will contract MRSA from not only the staff but the patient. Am I being overly paranoid about it? I knew nothing about MRSA before this new job. Please help me understand. The nurses I ask act as if it is no big deal and everyone has it. I am seriously thinking of switching careers again because I do not want to contract a disease. I have always wanted to be a nurse but have a little boy at home and his health is my number one concern. I don't know what to do.
  3. I am greatful for people like you and I am sure that woman and her family was as well. Thank you for reporting her!
  4. I just got a job as a nursing assistant in a great rehab hospital. I took the CNA course but will take the test in April to be certified. Does anyone know if you typically get a raise once you become certified? I started at an entry level salary which is not as much as I would have thought it would be.
  5. Thank you for your advice. Your information helped! I will just wait it out a little while. Thanks again.
  6. I just went to my first day of orientation at a hospital for nursing assistance full-time today!! I am so excited. However, it is not the exact position I requested in the interview. I noticed an opening for part-time on a floor that I would be willing to sacrifice the hours for working with the type of patients I wanted to from the start. This floor is very hard to get into since no one wants to leave it. I am very appreciative of the job I got offered but I would like to see if I can transfer to this specific one. I am excited about the opening since it is probably rare that one comes opent here and at the same time I don't want to be looked down upon so how soon is it okay to apply?? Thanks!
  7. You did the right thing and stuck up for those patients. I am proud of you! Those people are someone's mother, son, daughter or father. They deserve proper treatment.
  8. I understand what you are going through. I just did clinicals at a nursing home and was appaled at what I saw!! I reported them and had no guilty feelings what so ever. I don't care about what people think, the fact of the matter is these residents are human beings that deserve to be treated with respect. We are there to take care of them. That is our job. My focus is on providing the best care I can and making a difference in someones life who needs me. Those CNA's need to be in another profession if they are abusing patients/residents in anyway and I hope they all get fired. There are plenty of other people looking for a job that will treat them as a human being and not a worthless piece of trash. If there's not, then they need to downsize their establishment. there is no excuse to treat people that way.
  9. Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I got the job!!!! I am SO excited to have a new career that is rewarding!! :yeah:I went on three interviews and got asked some typical behavioral questions to see my work ethic/personality. I was very comfortable and answered them the way they wanted me to. I start in a week!! Thanks again, your advice helped me prepare!
  10. I have just finished a CNA course and I got an interview for a nursing assistant position very soon!! I am very excited. I am not sure how to prepare for the interview since I have no nursing experience and just finished my CNA class. What types of questions will they ask? Anything I should know or do? Are the CNA interviews different from just Nurse Assistant ones? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!
