Am I taking risk to lose the opportunity to be hired?
Thank you both of you for the replies :-) TheCommuter...I didn't want to turn down the offer either but wasn't sure what to do because at the second place they expected me to sign the contract and start working today. At first, I thought of doing so and maybe quit once I've heard from the first facility (if they call, of course). But I was concerned it would put a bad mark on my record for quitting after being hired for only few days. It was a hard decision to make...that's why I'm sitting here and being worried if I made the bad one. :-(

Am I taking risk to lose the opportunity to be hired?
Hello...all TX nurses :-). I recently posted here asking the question about preemployment background check. I just had another interview last week while waiting for the result on the background check from the 1st potential employer which is my first choice also of where I want to work at. The second interview went well and they called me yesterday offering the job and wanted me to start today. Anyway, as I mentioned above, the first facility that I had an interview with and still waiting to hear back on my background check is my first choice. Although I need a job badly, but didn't feel that it was right just to go in signing the paperwork, starting working perhaps few days and then quit in case the first employer calls and gives me a job. So, I decided to call the 2nd place and declined their offer Now I'm sitting here and getting worried so much if I made the right decision. Would I possibly lose another potential employment too since there is nothing official with them yet (at all). Talked to HR and she is still waiting on my background check to return and since I am from another state so it may take longer. She also mentioned that she can't guarantee or make any official offer at this point which is understandable. Haven't heard any words from the unit manager since I had an interview with her. The orientation with this employer is supposed to start on the 15th, however, I won't be able to do that if my background check is still pending. I know I might be a little bit over worried about this, but just can't help it because I need to have a job really bad especially in this tough time due to economy. I don't know how often should I contact the employer following up on my status or if I should even get a hold of the unit manager to find out if they really plan to hire me..I just don't want them to think that I am pushy or annoying. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks in advance for the reply. I really appreciate it :-)

Pre-employment background check question please!!
Thanks for your reply, RN2BDFW. So, I guess I shouldn't be worried too much, should I since I don't really have anything bad on my record...never been arrested or anything along that line. Hopefully, I hear something back from them next week. Keep my fingers crossed!!!!!

Pre-employment background check question please!!
Hi everyone....I have some questions about the pre-employment background check and hope some of you may be able to help. I am an out of State graduate nurse who just relocated to Texas due to husband's new job assignment. Last week I had a job interview at a local hospital here in Texas which seemed to go pretty well. After the interview, the unit manager stated that HR department will conduct the background check on me first and if everything is OK I will then be scheduled for an orientation. (So..I assume that that was an unofficial job offer...wasn't it?) Anyway, the manager didn't have me sign any consent form for the background check at all. The only thing that happened was the HR lady called me couple days later requiring my SSN# and DOB in order for her to run the background check. My questions are; 1) Is it common here in Texas for the potential employer to run my background check without requiring me to sing any consent? 2). And how long does it generally take for the employer to get the result on my background check? I have been waiting for 3 days now and am very anxious about it. Thank you so much in advance for any help

Info, ideas or suggestions about LPN in Reno
Thanks you all for all the info...really appreciate it :) Honestly, this is so difficult for me to make the decision. I worked really hard in order to get into the nursing program here and had my mind set for finishing and becoming an RN within next year. But the family's as well as the financial situation have put so much pressures on me to rethink about getting our family to be reunited again soon. I've been checking about the LPN-RN bridge programs in Reno and nearby areas, so far WNC in Carson city is the only school I've found that offers the LPN-RN program. Anyway, anyone has the ideas about the differences of scope of practices between LPNs and RNs at the hospital setting? Again, I truly appreciate all you guys' replies.

Info, ideas or suggestions about LPN in Reno
Hi there.... I am currently a 1st year nursing student at the community college here in WA. When I got accepted into a program last summer it was about the same time my husband got a promotion and had to transfer to Reno. It was difficult for me at that time to give up my spot and move with him, so we decided to stay separated until I graduate in 2011. Anyway, 6 months have gone by and we've found it is so hard to be apart especially the kids that miss their dad terribly. I had thought about finishing my 1st year here and then applying to TMCC or WNC for the 2nd year, but the chances are so slim. Another option I have and would like to try is completing the 1st year and a summer class that will make me eligible to take an exam for becoming a licensed LPN. Once I have a license, I can work as an LPN for probably a year and then go back to school for my RN. Anyway, my problem is I don't know anything at all about the job market in Reno for LPNs. Honestly, I cannot afford to give up my 2nd year spot and then have no job. So, before making any decision, I would like to get some information, idea or suggestions from you guys who are in the area and know the area better than I do. How easy or difficult it is to get a job as an LPN in Reno and what is a start wage for one with no experience? Any info or ideas are highly appreciated. :)
