Should I even consider ED??
Okay, I just found this site yesterday.... I have worked in ICU for 9 years and I am really bored where I am, the unit I am on at this point is more like a tele unit that ICU. We fight over who gets the unstable patients. Tomorrow I have an interview for a ED position....which is a whole new thing for me. I was excited about it, but after reading some of these discussions I am not sure if it is a direction I should take. Everyone sounds so disgusted with their jobs and the people they treat..... Is this reality?? I also have apps in for ICU positions at a level I trauma center....county facility. Would I be better off in ICU. I am burned out, but nothing else interests me....and my checkbook is feeling pain. Suggestions anyone??????

Vacation in Seattle
Hi Kris, The weather here isnt always that bad....ask anyone who was here last spring and summer!! A fun way to travel to Vancover from Seattle is via the train. Very convienent location etc. I suggest that you pick up a book at the bookstore about best places in Seattle....there are so many it is hard for me to list them all! Another trip to Victoria would be taking the boat from seattle up....It is called the Victoria Clipper. IF you like Seafood....make sure to check out the restraunts here!!

New to ICU
Hi, I am new to this site so forgive me if I screw something up! (I will try not to feel like a dunce:) ) I have been in critical care for the past 9 years and I still feel clueless at times. I have never stopped asking questions, bouncing my thoughts off of more seasoned nurses, or stopping to look information up if I dont have the answer. I found that the thing that helped me the most, a tip from my first preceptor 9 years ago, is to keep my thoughts organized by system. I still make a report sheet for myself that goes down the line....neuro, cv, pulm, gi, gu, id, endo, psych, iv, etc.... It keeps me focused and on the right track during my assessments and communications with other staff. Also, those mistakes that you make...you never make the same one again...it is a way we learn. Hang in there and find those nurses who you trust to help you out with a helpful attitude...they will be your best resource. Good luck!
