  1. If anyone has any questions you can try searching TWU Houston Fall 2010 on here and go through their thread (very long, tho!) those who got accepted kept posting even a little bit into the first semester so you can find a lot of information there. I am a current TWU student so if anyone has questions feel free to ask and I'll try to answer them. So far what it looks like some are confused on: 1. Your advisement session should be in May. When you guys get your packets it will tell you when and where to go. You'll be greeted by some instructors and other staff and try on scrubs (you don't have to buy scrubs through the school but you DO need the TWU patches to be worn on your left shoulder) and order them if you choose, meet some advisors, and get information about both Fall and Summer classes. 2. For the summer you guys can take Pathophysiology if you choose to. Most people recommend it to lighten your load in the fall but if you choose not to that's your decision. At the advisement session you will have to decide so your advisor can sign off on it. Patho is usually Thursday nights (in the summer AND the fall), I'm not sure if this is going to change or not. 3. For the Fall you will take Concepts, Pharm, Assessment, and Patho (unless you took it in the summer). You do not get to choose the times for the Lectures, you will ALL be together in one big room. Concepts and Assessment are generally on Mondays and then Pharm is usually Tuesday nights, not sure if there are any changes for the Fall. 4. You will also not get to choose when you have Assessment lab (lab portion of the class is at school) or Clinical. You also do not get to choose your clinical LOCATION. You have no choice, you go where they put you and they usually don't like for people to "switch" although they did allow a few to do so in my first semester if they were accidentally assigned clinicals that were very far from where they lived. [They try to place you based on where you live but it does NOT always work out.] 5. They will let you know at advisement the date you can actually go online and register, but you must go to advisement to fill out a form or else your classes will not be unlocked for you. So basically a lot of your first semester you do not have a choice about whatsoever. That changes a bit in your second semester. Junior 2's get allll their names put in a hat/bowl/bucket and then drawn out one by one and you get to go up and put your name down for the clinical section you want. But if you're one of the last people picked you're still not really given a choice. (this method is used for the rest of the program) All of the major Lecture portions of the classes are ALWAYS predetermined and you don't have the option of taking it at a different time/day. You are all together, always, for lecture. The only exceptions are some classes in your last semester, electives, I think, and online classes (online class material is generally the same but sometimes you will have a different instructor assigned to you, it's just so not only one person is grading 100 or so papers. some grade harder than others, tho). Also, you can take the CPR class at school. TNSA (Texas Nursing Student Association) will be at your advisement and you can sign up for a class if you decide to pay to join TNSA. Or I think you can sign up for a class even if you don't want to join TNSA but I'm not sure, I think they discount the price if you join though.
  2. Here
  3. I thought it was a different person. Same last name but different woman entirely. Or has it changed??
  4. Did everyone get their books from the Matthews Book Store or did you guys order some online? I checked and all but the Assessments package and one book for Concepts (Drug Guide for Nurses) are available on Barnes and Noble and Amazon. But are they ALL also available at Matthews Book Store? I'm trying to compare prices to save as much money as possible but it's getting to be a bit confusing LOL. So if it's cheaper to get them all at that store or cheaper to get them all online and then only get the Assessment Package at the store... If anyone knows please let me know! :) ALSO, for those who went to tutoring sometimes, do you remember what NCLEX review book Everett recommended? I remember him recommending that we get one to study or something, but I don't remember which one he said was good and there are a LOT to choose from. I wasn't even aware we could have lockers. I've obviously seen them but Idk I just didn't snap to it. Thanks for the heads up, guys! I'll be at the CPR session tomorrow (Monday) so I'll probably get one then.
  5. Thanks Ryan!! :) and yes missmoe you were right thank you! I'm so glad we're done with her... I love learning and a lot of the stuff I liked learning (cuz I'm a nerd) but I think everybody wouldve enjoyed the class a lot more if we hadn't had a teacher change... I hope everyone did well!!! I feel so relieved hahaha And yes, house is better than grays. Haha at least in my opinion. :)
  6. Ok so the grades are still with .whatever but is that how she submitted them as well? Because mine has a .58 on the end so is it rounded up or twu will not round up? I wish they would post to pioneer portal already cuz for me it's the difference between two different letter grades if it was rounded up or not...
  7. I asked her after I passed in the test and she was like "They're due Tuesday so sometime around then." Meaning... Tuesday. But then yall are saying Wednesday so Idk. She loves to wait until the last minute. No news on the Pharm booklist? Is it online like the Patho one was? I haven't checked.
  8. I'll stay afterwards also for as long as I can :) And I like the Thursday idea also, I don't mind going early for a little study group and then going to class afterwards... I would just need to know about what time to go! :) Allnurses stopped sending me emails when people write on here so I never know that yall are still posting stuff LOL And congrats kthomas!!! See u in the fall!!
  9. Where can we pick up the id badges? Do we have to call first or can we just stop by?
  10. I couldn't figure it out and I was in a hurry the other day so I went on webadvisor and looke up on account summary by term what the cost for the summer class was, then on the bill pay I just clicked pay, put my info, then selected summer 2010 and typed in the amount that it said on webadvisor. So far I have not been dropped lol so I'm hoping I did it right.. The site it took me to to pay was confusing but it's payed so hopefully it is all ok! I got a confirmation email as well so if they do drop me I'll just have to call and hopefully they'll help me out with it. But I think it's ok I guess there's two ways of doing it lol mine was just the more confusing way. Was the total for the summer session the same amount that it says on webadvisor for everyone? I have no computer here i had to borrow someones just to pay I have to check everything on my phone... Also, did everyone call for the fingerprint scan? What do they tell u? Because I am out of town I'm scared that it will be like the drug test like THEY decide when we go, and I don't want them to tell me to go on a day when I won't be home yet!! So if someone could help me out I'd appreciate it :)
  11. You were supposed to register before May 14. If it wasn't letting you register before that then it was probably some webadvisor error but if you're barely trying to do it now then that's why it's not working. You should call the registrar or someone who was there at the advisement session to see if they can take it off.
  12. I got my OneCard in the mail yesterday. I activated it but it's not like they're gonna give us anything until the fall right? lol Does anyone know a good place to buy the books? I'm so used to just getting them at the bookstore at my old school I don't know anything about buying them online. Oh, and I can't log in to webadvisor even though I was just on it a minute ago. I hope this problem goes away I hate when it's nor working right.
  13. My account summary still says 0... But at the bottom of the account summary page theres something that says by term or something?? I just clicked that and then selected the term and it showed the costs...
  14. I know.. they made it seem on Friday like as if we'd be getting so much money as long as we applied for it. It lists on WebAdvisor my Budget, EFC, and Need. But I still only have the one 2000 Transfer Scholarship. I haven't even been offered a loan, which I've been waiting for rather than seeking out a loan through a bank... And when they edited my FAFSA, since my efc went up, I am no longer eligible for Federal Pell Grants. I'm just here like, wow, thanks a lot.
  15. I think dolsen is right... It's weird but if you look at it, they're at the same time and in the same room. I think it's one of those classes where they teach together or take turns teaching or something, but I'm not really sure. It did the "this conflicts with blah blah" thing with me, too, so I just picked one. I don't even remember which one I picked, lol. Has anyone received more financial aid? I got an e-mail today from FAFSA saying that my Correction has been processed... Meaning TWU filed for corrections after I sent in my Verification information... And they upped my EFC from 3000-something to over 6000!! What the heck? And now that I know that they haven't even really been looking at my file, they sent it off for corrections, I feel REALLY discouraged about getting awarded anything... Is anyone else having this problem?
  16. So where EXACTLY do we go tomorrow? Does anyone know? lol I'm getting dropped off so I don't have to worry about parking.. But I don't know where to go? I got everything done, too... Did anyone get an e-mail from financial aid? I got one that said something about an award letter but when I got on WebAdvisor it was just an award letter from the scholarship I already got, nothing new. Ugh, the whole financial aid thing is frustrating!! Can't wait until tomorrow though, I'm excited to see everything and everyone.
  17. That's good!! I wonder if we'll actually have time to make use of it, though! lol
  18. THANK YOU!! I'm a slob at sewing but I'm sure I could get my sister or my aunt to do it for me. I totally agree about the being picky about the scrubs. I can't stand when it's a cheap, rough material or if it doesn't fit right. So our actual tuition should not be too much? That's good. I know the books will be a lot Does anyone know where we can get our books? The Majors here in Houston closed didn't it? So will we have to order our books online or something? Also, to TX Catcher (I think it was you) or whoever said something about the STARS scholarships, I'm so with you!! The scholarship that I did get (Transfer Scholarship) was from STARS it says Accepted, and there's one that says Denied but the rest say something else I forgot what it is but basically they haven't picked people yet. I know it's only the end of April but for me everything seems so close even though we still have a few months!! LOL I'm hoping I get awarded some more, or that financial aid helps a lot because I didn't apply for any extra scholarships. I only applied for financial aid and the STARS scholarships that I qualified for. So if I don't get enough from those I'll have to get a student loan.
  19. Yeah, I'm not sure if it's TWU or Surscan that decides you only have about 24 hours notice!! I don't check my e-mail a million times a day anymore (I used to before we got the acceptance emails haha but not so much anymore) so I barely saw my e-mail before I needed to go! Thankfully I'm in Houston and one of the centers was actually really close to me... The Surscan people were all really nice, though. Usually they're cold and unfriendly like when you get drug tests for jobs but the guy who took the stuff from me was real friendly all asking me what it was for and what kind of nursing I wanted to go into later and everything... Maybe he was just trying to flirt but whatever, at least they were nice.
  20. I hope they go over expenses with us at the advisement session. If I don't get awarded more financial aid soon (all I got was a $2000 transfer scholarship so far) I'm going to have to get a student loan to cover it and I don't want to wait until the last minute so I want to know how much I would be needing to ask for.
  21. Hey guys, I didn't even know there was new posts, I'm not getting notifications to my e-mail anymore Idk why! Anyway, I got my immunizations done!! I've had MMR and Hep B, I got my shot records from my middle school (lol)... And then last week I got the Tdap, TB Skin test, and a Varicella titer. I had to wait for the titer results but they came in Monday and it was positive thank God! So I just need to go pick up to lab report and fax everything. I'm prayyying that TWU will accept the school record for my MMR and Hep B because I do not want to have to get those over again! Or titers. Sorry I can't help anyone having problems with getting it all done... I got the stuff I needed done at my doctor's office and my insurance covered everything except for little copays for the visits... I have United Healthcare. I know not all insurance programs cover all that, especially the titers. The Varicella one is not too bad but if you need a titer for MMR, it's three separate titers for each one so it's a lot. Anxious for the advisement session!! So it's recommended to just buy the patches and then buy our own scrubs?? I don't want to be stuck with ill-fitting scrubs. I'm really small and I hate when stuff doesn't fit me right! lol Have any of the current students had a problem with the white scrub tops? Like do they need to be replaced often, being white and all?
  22. DHaywood- I meant that I had a Td shot seven years ago which as a Tetorifice shot is good for another three years but TWU wants the Tdap. Td does not have the Pertusis part. That's why I was saying for everyone to make sure that they have the right one. I got my TB test today and the Tdap. I go back Wednesday for them to look at my skin test and do a varicella titer. Hopefully my antibodies are still good and I don't have to get the vaccine! I've heard that a lot of people who had chicken pox had to get the vaccine because their titers were negative, even though they'd had chicken pox when they were younger! And everyone at my doctor's office was in disbelief that just SAYING you had had chicken pox was not good enough for the school. lol For the advisement session I was thinking just casual. Of course not TOO casual lol but I'm certainly not dressing up. I don't know how long we're going to be there sitting around and doing stuff so I want to be comfortable.
  23. No one's posted in a few days... Anything new? I still haven't gotten my immunizations I'm stressing over it! I finally got ahold of my records from my old MIDDLE SCHOOL (lol) and I'm prayyying that twu will accept it, so then all I need is the TB test, Varicella titer (or vaccine, idk if my insurance will cover the titer), and DPT. Oh ya, heads up to anyone else not done yet: I thought the Tetorifice shot was one basic thing I got one 7 years ago but it turns out it was a Td shot, and they want the DPT one, so make sure you have the right one! I did my drug screening last week. Are they supposed to call us or anything afterwards? Cuz I haven't heard anything since I went, I'm assuming we just test and that's it and TWU gets the results. I'm excited for the advisement session, especially since I didn't make it to happy hour! It'll be nice to meet each other and all our classmates! :)
  24. I received an e-mail today saying that my Drug Test is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) anytime between 8 and 4 or 4:30 (I forgot)... I get that it has to be kind of RANDOM but that's a little too short notice! But thankfully I'll be able to go, I don't have anything that I can't get out of.
  25. So can we order scrubs from anywhere? The information packet made it seem like we would be ordering them at the advisement session. I thought our scrub tops had to have the TWU logo or something but maybe I was wrong?
