Hi everybody. I am an RPN here in Ontario. I have been a rpn for about 2 years now working in a couple of nursing homes. For a couple of months now I feel like I'm getting tired of working in nursing homes because I'm doing the same thing day by day and feel like I'm no longer gaining anything. Lately I been thinking of working in a hospital because maybe something more exciting happens there and I can experience new things. However whenever I look at the job posting for hospitals they all require experience in that certain unit either 1 or 2 years experience. For example I see a lot of job positions for Med/Surg unit but they ask for 2 years experience in Med/Surg and I've been wondering how can I get that experience if I never worked on that kind of unit. I've been put in med/surg unit during my student days but that's about it for experience I'm not longer a new grad so I can't apply via new grad position program, but at the same time I feel like even if I apply for the job they won't even look at my resume because I don't have any experience in that kind of setting. Therefore I was wondering how did you get a job at the hospital, which unit did you start at and how did you get the experience before working for that unit? Thanks!

Hi this has been awhile, but I did graduate at my wanted date of december 2010 and got my license right away after graduation and within a few weeks of getting my license I got hired for a job =D and still working there. For your question about managing with patients during clinical hours. For some reason during clinical practices, I do really great. I get praises from all staff member on how well I perform duties and interact with everybody (When I was a student). Now I'm trying to get into BScN but like I said in the past post I wasn't the brightest or dumbest. My marks weren't always the best except for my last 2 semester my marks were in the A's, but because of my short comings in 1st and 2nd semester which I did past but had really bad marks. I gotta repeat a few courses before getting into an Bridging program.

I am an RPN(Registered Practical Nurse (LPN) in Canada I want to become a RN (Registered nurse) The only way for me to become an RN is by going through a bridging program. I been looking through for classes and found some. So whats the difference between BSCN and RN. If I was to take BSCN am I still an RN that just specializes on something or that's totally different from RN? Thanks!

Hi, I'm a newly graduate RPN, who has also just recently passed the board exam and luckily got a job within a few weeks of receiving my exam results. Now that I know how it feels like to work as a nurse (which is very fulfilling and exciting to me), I feel that I wanna continue on and obtain more knowledge and get into more different type of nursing settings. I wanna go into RN(BScN) I have two choices to get into it: 1: Bridging Program from RPN to RN 2: Do the full 4years RN course and start fresh. I have a few problems though: 1:In order to get into the bridging program I require a GPA 3.0 and some other program requirements which I'm still confused about needing B+ in some nursing courses, to continue on my Cumulative GPA ended up short by .10 points to each a GPA of 3.0 therefore that is holding me back to get into a bridging program 2:In order to do the full 4 years RN course I have to return back to High School or Adult High School (I'm 20), because when I was in high school I only took College course but in order to get into RN I need university courses which will take me at least another year or two to before I can really start the RN course. Other Info: I really wanna do the bridging program because it seems it's the fastest route however I don't know a way to raise my GPA, I've talked to the school I graduated at and they said they are currently not accepting student (because of the labor strike). So I don't have any information as of yet if I could go back and raise some of my past courses grades that will help bring my GPA up(However I have a feeling that they want me to redo everything all together again which I don't want to because I had some really good marks in majority of my classes). Help: If you were once in this situation or knew someone in this situation could you please tell me on solutions what I can do. Thank You in advance!

This is what i thought also, because whats the point of having NS if your not going to administer it. Because i've been thought before administering blood you must double check with another nurse and checking for clotting factors,rh, blood type, right client etc......

I totally forgot about that.THANKS!.But i've also been thought that some iv lines have two ports one for just blood to go into and the other is for flushing normal saline. I remember having this discussion with the class and the teacher. There was two teacher there at the time and both had different opinion and explanation but the one i can remember clearly is that there are some iv lines with two ports so it would be okay to insert the NS.

Hi I'm a new graduate in nursing and now preparing for board exam. I have a few questions. I have been doing review questions and theres just some things I don't get so below ill be posting review questions that I do not understand. I was wondering if theres anyone there that can help me under why this certain answer is right above the rest. Mr. A with Hepatitis A and was given injection for pain. What you will do with the needle ? If biohazard container is not there? Break the needle Leave the needle and wait for container to arrive Separate the needle from syringe and throw in the garbage cane Recapped the needle In this questions the answer is B leave the needle and wait for the container to arrive. to me that sounded wrong because I have been thought to never leave needles in the room and should always be thrown in the sharps container but since in this situation there is no sharps container I thought the best way is to recap the needle(thought I know this isnt good to because of needle stick injuries). can someone clarify this questions to me thank you. After delivery mother is fine back to ward V/S stable lochia normal c/o of severe episiotomy pain what will the nurse do? Apply analgesic cream Give an ice pack to the episostomy area Inform Doctor Tell her to liedown in supine position for a few hours Now for this questions the answer is also B give an ice pack to the episostomy area. can someone explain to me why an ice pack would be applied the only thing i can think of is because it will numb the area so it doesnt hurt. A client is on oxygen how will you know what is danger to her? The water tank in the humidifier is very low The oxygen tank has been taken out from the holder Patient in on comfortable position Nurse are monitoring the patient continuously For this question the answer is a the water tank is in the humidifier is very low. I read in another book with the same question and it said the answer is the oxygen tank has been taken out from the holder was the right answer. so really which one is the real answer? So i just wanted to clarify a few things about those questions (I have many more but I don't wanna be posting a whole bunch of questions). Thank You! Here's another questions that confused me Mr. Emanual is on blood transfusion after 1 hour he got reaction client complained of back pain nausea and vomiting chills. What should the nurse do? A. Stop the transfusion and inform the RN B. Stop the transfusion call the DR immediately C. Stop the transfusion and flush with NS D. Stop transfusion and monitor vital signs The answer is b stop the transfusion call the dr immediately. I know that if an allergic reaction happens your suppose to stop the blood transfusion but for this my answer was stop it then flush with NS. usually all the blood transfusion questions I have done always said the right answer was stop the infusion and administer NS because Blood transfusion can only be done with NS. so why would NS not be the answer and call the dr immediately be the right one.

Hi To All The Nurses On This Forum. Well I got a few questions, but before that I shall tell you a little introduction about myself. I am currently a practical nursing student at Sheridan College at Brampton. I'm not exactly the most brightest student in the course but I'm not the dumbest I think. I believe I could get better marks if I could focus more. Hopefully by December 2010 I will finish because currently I am suppose to be in fourth semester, but because of my low marks I wasn't able to pass everything from the past semester. Sadly I still have to do 2 course from semester 2 and 4 more courses in semester 3 to be able to do everything course in fourth semester. If your wondering what course I did bad in it is Lab 2, I get really nervous when doing finals and tend to forget and ramble on things. Lab 2 held me back so I wasn't able to do Lab 3 which is holding me back to do some Semester 4 courses because Lab's are a big prerequisite. But I did pass clinical 2 and could have done clinical 3 but decided not to do clinical 3 without lab 3. So to get on with my questions-sorry about my long intro. 1) If I were to finish RPN this December and hopefully pass the board exam(oh GOD help me) will I be able to do Bridging right away? 2) Do I really need to do bridging to get to RN or I can just go straight to RN? 3) How long will I be in nursing school until I finish RN? 4) This is connected to question 3-Will my RPN years be counted for RN years like since I finish 2 Years of RPN does that mean I only have to do 2 more years of RN plus bridging if needed which will be 3 years? or my RPN years will not be counted and I still will be doing 5 more years of Nursing School. 5) Any recommendations of Colleges or University that has Bridging Programs within Ontario? And any Colleges or University you could recommend I should attend when I go onto RN within Ontario. 6) Any suggestions I could do to be less nervous when performing In front of teachers when doing demo's?
