Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011
Ok, so the scare with financial aid wasn't a big problem. I just had to complete a degree audit! Glad that's taken care of!

Blah! That makes three of us so far....I'm REALLY not looking forward to visiting financial aid on Monday. It's gonna be sooo crowded if this has happened to a lot of ppl. I'm hoping it will be fixed tomorrow or at least first thing on Monday before I can head down to the campus.

I did mine a while back, but I do remember it being confusing. I don't remember what the questions were...if you try again, post them here and I'll try to remember what I put!!

The BayCare orientation must be complete before you can participate in the clinicals!

Hi! I just checked my "Financial Aid by Term" in WebAdvisor, and it says my Pell has be "rejected". I know of another person that it has also happened to....I'm wondering if you guys can check yours and let me know if it happened to you too. Looks like I'll be spending some time in the fin aid office. Ugh!

I am also feeling very overwhelmed! I haven't started reading yet, but will this week. I bought my books from Barnes & Noble (if you're a AAA Auto Club member, you get 10 % off) and Amazon.com. I saved over $200 by doing it that way (instead of the box from HCC). Don't forget though, not all of the required books come in the box at HCC...I think it was just under $200 in books that you have to purchase separately. I think you're shoes are ok based on what Mrs S said during orientation, mine have a little bit of blue on them. If mine aren't ok, I'll just paint the little bit of blue accents with white fingernail polish. LOL

Good luck with your application! That's a pretty good GPA to be applying with :) If you want to email ** to ask if you can send it with a tracking number...I think I asked her and she said no, but I can't remember. I included a self-addressed stamped postcard with my application, and when HCC received my application, they put it in the mail...which assured me that they received it! We haven't started the nursing course yet, we begin in January and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we are very excited about it! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask us!

Yes, we have to have everything to Mrs S by the first day of class. EDDjune24, I think you are thinking about the day tuition is due. I remember it being the beginning of December. I have an email in to the Financial Aid manager to see if it can be deferred until Pell pays it....I'll let you all know if I hear back from him.

I agree about this thread! LOL I think a lot of ppl got each others email addresses/phone numbers, etc at orientation. I already registered for a CPR class in a couple of weeks...can't wait to get that! I have a couple of things left to get; support hose (since Mrs. S recommended it), scissors, penlight, and another long sleeve undershirt, and I need to order my badge. I'm excited to get my box of books too!

Well, day one of orientation is over...and I must say it wasn't as boring as I expected! Well, until the last two hours, ugh!

I emailed M.F. (LOL) and she said that we're on our own for lunch, because it is NOT provided.

I'm planning on staying the whole time. It *is* mandatory...and while I may be bored out of my mind, I don't want to miss something. I've come too far to bail during the orientation. lol

Two more days and we'll be in orientation! I went to Sears yesterday and accidently found some awesome shoes that I ended up buying! (I say I 'accidently' found them because I just happened to see them on display as I was walking by the shoe dept). They are Reebok Easy Tones, and were on sale! I was planning on going with the Nike Shox, but these are more comfortable, and $45 cheaper! I'm hoping the silver accents will be ok, if not, then I'll be buying some white paint/fingernail polish and painting over it, lol.

Ugh, I forgot about that! The Pell will only pay for classes "required for your degree" too. Looks like I'll be dropping Yoga...
-
Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011
I believe they're only held at the Dale Mabry campus...and there's a few different times. They fill up quickly though....so if you're thinking of taking one, register now and you can always drop if you decided against it.

Happymomma: I was told by an advisor that even though the nursing program is considered a ''full-time'' program, that the Pell/scholarships base full-time enrollment on 12 cr hours. Soo, if you get any financial aid, it will be based on 3/4 time status NOT full time. I was thinking of taking a yoga class to bring me up to the 12 cr hours...but I haven't decided yet.

EDDjune24, I get to miss a couple of classes too....I don't mind (none of them are fun, lol), but I'm gonna be SOOOO lost. I guess I'll have to get notes from someone in my class and/or meet with my instructors. Ugh. BUT, I'm excited although I've been told it's very boring...and they take 2 days to tell us stuff that could be emailed to us. I have heard something about a physical exam, drug test, and vaccinations that we are going to need. Does anyone know if we can have that all done during orientation? Or do we have to go elsewhere for it?

Wow, you have a lot on your plate right now! LOL Well, first of all, congrats on your pregnancy! :) Yes, they will let us know all of that at our Orientation! The only way some of the other girls and I know about what to get/not get is from the fall '10 students who have been very helpful on this forum! HCC recommends a Littmann stethoscope, and our scrubs have to be white bottoms and port wine tops(most brands only have "wine" and the majority of them are the same color). The books can be bought from the HCC bookstore in a package, so that's easy. But, you don't have to get any of that before Orientation, so you have a couple months to research/shop! I would recommend NOT waiting until the last minute though, because you might need to order some things online (such as a maternity scrub top), and you need enough time to get it (and ship it back if it's not gonna work)!! To help you cut down on your research time, I'll let you know that a couple of us on here ordered our stethoscopes from www.medisave.net . They have free engraving, and very fast shipping. I can also recommend shopping online at www.UniformAdvantage.com or www.ScrubsAndBeyond.com , I have ordered from both stores. I'm having the hardest time finding shoes though....comfortable shoes, that is. Another site that many ppl on this forum shop at is www.AllHeart.com . I haven't ordered anything from them though. I don't think they would discriminate either, and I think the only reason they had my friend postpone her start date into the program is because she was due so soon after it began...they knew that it would be better for her to start a semester later, rather than have to miss part of the course.

EDDjune24: Congrats on your acceptance! Yes, MAC1105 is a new requirement...I wasn't happy about it either. lol As for the schedule, HCC's nursing program is 4 semesters long (Spring '11, Fall '11, Spring '12, Fall '12) so, yes we'll have a summer break! According to HCC's calendar, classes end May 9th and the fall semester will start toward the end of August. I have been told that if we're not happy with our times/campus, that we'll have the option to switch with someone at orientation (if someone else wants to switch with you, of course). So, once again, congrats!!! Oh, I forgot to mention about your pregnancy...I'm not sure about the policy. You definitely should ask about that (maybe email M.F.). I am not sure what's involved with the labs....or if that could be an issue. I have a friend who was due in Feb and although she was 'accepted' for the Spring '10 start, they didn't allow her to start and made her start this fall. (Of course that's different than your situation, because you're due AFTER the semester is over).

Oh ok, well on my acceptance letter it talks about the CPR certification and says "The American Heart Association is the preferred organization for CPR, for they follow the AHA guidelines. Please do not attempt to register prior to you attending Orientation." So, I'm guessing it means for CPR. (You could always email M.F. to find out for sure!) I have been *told* by a friend of mine that they know someone who did the CPR class before Orientation and had to retake it...(don't know how true that is, since it's just hear-say, lol). That would be a drag though!

Don't do it yet...read your letter carefully! It says don't register for that until after orientation!!!!
