NY_NursingStudent

I will be a newly licensed RN in NY soon. I have several friends and family members that are experienced RN's. We were looking for some input on various business ideas. "Concerige?" Nursing (specifically, we thought of providing services to ambulatory surgery or ED patients who were recently discharged and might need a little follow-up care, patient teaching, help with ADL's, etc.) I looked at the the Medicare/Medicaid info but it doesn't seem like they would pay for a such a service. I'm guessing private insurance wouldn't either, so it would have to be private-pay patients? Private Duty....as above, it seems that in NY you can only be paid with an NPI number if an agency can't or doesn't want to take the patient? Health coaching/teaching.....I've seen Dr's offices advertise these services (often provided by an RN), and was told that they are able to be reimbursed for them. Could a "regular' RN, working independently, do so as well? Telephone Triage.....perhaps contracting with an MD's office to provide services to their patients? and having an urgent care center to refer to? Thank you all for your input!!

CrufflerJJ provided a very good overview of the major devices on the market. My EMS system uses the BIG IO and it works wonderfully. Aside from being quicker than an IV and more efficient than using the ETT it also keeps the provider administering medications away from where the rest of the "action" (i.e. ventilations/compressions/defib) is going on. While it might not be as cramped as in the hospital setiting, I think that they are great devices.

Hi All - I'm a college student with an Associates degree in liberal arts. After finishing my Associates I transferred to a four-year university and started studying education. (I did that for a semester). I than realized that I wanted to go into nursing (something I wanted to do right out of high school, but kept putting off for foolish reasons) and applied to my current university's nursing program and took there entrance exam. The advisors told me that, at best, I would finish the program in three and a half years. What I am trying to find out if there are any programs, anywhere in the country, that lead to a BSN and take less than 3.5 years to complete. (I'll have statistics, some bio classes, A+P II and Physiologic chem done, plus a liberal arts associates w/ several science and math courses). Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi...thanks for getting back to me. Part of the problem is that this school doesn't offer all my remaining pre-req's in one semester, and they are not available during the summer, either, and I'm not allowed to take them as co-req's. I was hoping to find a program that either progressed faster than that or that did classify me as an Advanced placement student ( I have 80 college credits - the problem is that they are in an assortment of subject areas.)
