  1. Were you able to move forward with a foot care business? I currently have a foot care business and would be happy to help.
  2. Are there any foot care nurses out there who could guide me to some foot care specific continuing ED? This will be for my recertification.
  3. The MA program where I teach is an Associate Degree program. Medical assistant is just a name for a job--like "cashier." It could apply to anyone in the clinic such as the receptionist or biller (MA's are trained to do front office skills as well). MAs can take a certification test but they are not licensed because they work under the license of a doctor.
  4. Medical Assistants are specifically trained to work in a doctor's office. They are trained to do injections, phlebotomy, EKG's, urinalysis, sterilization, etc. The doctors hire them because that's where they are trained to work. In my area, LPNs who work in clinics make about the same as the MAs do. There really isn't much that goes on in a doctors office (except for triage and the occasional IV) that requires a higher level of skill than an MA has.
  5. Medical Assistants are specifically trained to work in physician's offices. That's why they are preferred for that role. They learn things like basic lab testing, phlebotomy, how to set up procedure trays, how to assist with routine procedures, sterilization of instruments, etc. that I know I didn't get in nursing school. They probably don't get paid as well because they don't work pm's, nights, weekends, or holidays like nurses do. They also never need to make independent nursing decisions because there is always a doctor present.
