CA NCLEX Results Delay, March 2014
Hi! Just wondering if you ever got your official results. I took mine in 3/24, got the good pop up, but no license yet. Friends who took it the same day found out the next evening. I'm a nervous wreck right now. I also have a friend who took it on 3/11 but has not heard back because they "lost" her transcripts.

Failed the first time...now what?
Hi Cali2014rn, I'm sorry that you have to go through the whole NCLEX ordeal again. I just took my NCLEX on 3/24, got the good pop up from Pearson Vue, but have not received my official results. You don't have to answer my questions if you don't want to. I was just wondering, how long after you took your NCLEX that you found out you didn't pass? How many questions did you get on your first attempt? Did you get a good pop up from the Pearson Vue Trick? Classmates who took it the same day as me heard back by the next day but I'm still waiting. I'm so nervous that I didn't pass it was a hard test. =\

Samuel Merritt ELMSN/FNP Fall 2013 Oakland
Hi Alyssag, In my first semester, school was my life! There was always something to do every week, so be prepared to do a lot of sitting =P. Fortunately, I still had time to work once a week and spend a few hours with my family and friends on some weekends. In your first semester you will be taking Transitions to Nursing, Patho/Pharm, Mental Health, Health Assessment/Lab, Skills lab, & mental health clinical. For me, the classes weren't difficult or easy. However, I did study a lot. Clinicals are usually held in Oakland, SF, Walnut Creek, and Concord areas. As for the interview, it depends if you're invited for CM or FNP. I interviewed for the CM track and mine was an individual interview. I can't remember the exact questions, but focus on why you chose this school and CM track, your background, strengths/weaknesses, and motivation for the profession. They will also go over your transcripts and point out any inconsistencies, so prepare to have an explanation for below average grades. In the end, you will have to write a short prompt. For statistics, I'm sure you can find it online somewhere. I'm don't know my cohort's statistics, but I don't mind sharing mine. I had a 3.3 undergrad GPA, 4.0 prerequisites GPA, 86.5% TEAS. If you get an interview, you're pretty much golden. Unless you're really bad at interviewing. For now, sit back and relax because that's all you can do! Be patient, they will not notify people until February. I didn't get an interview until the end of February! Hope this helps! LLL

Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2012
Hi Everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that I got accepted into the San Mateo ABSN as well! I got a voicemail around 8:30 pm. Fortunately, for those who are waitlisted, I will not be taking the ABSN program because I've already decided to join the ELMSN-CM program. So, my spot is up for grabs! Congratulations to everyone who got in and best wishes to those who are still waiting! live.love.laugh

Samuel Merritt University MSN FNP Summer 2012
Hi Everyone! I'm not an applicant for the MSN FNP program at Samuel Merritt, but I will be a student in one of their direct entry programs this coming Fall. I am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place and I would like to read some advice from experienced nurses or new grads. So, here goes my story. I was recently offered admission to their ELMSN Case Management program. I originally applied to their ELMSN FNP program but got rejected because the admission officers for the FNP program thought that I would make a better candidate for the Case Management program. So, they asked me if I would like to forward my application to the Case Management department and I said "of course!" They warned me that I would not be able to switch to the ELMSN-FNP program and I was fine with it because I really want to get started on nursing school. I went to the ELMSN-CM interview and got a phone call a few hours after my interview saying that I made it into the program! I also applied to their ABSN program but haven't received any news from them yet. So, my question is which program would you advise me to go for if my ultimate goal is to have a master's degree and be a nurse practitioner. I feel that the ABSN might be a better choice for my long term goal, but I am scared that the MSN FNP program will no longer exist by the time I apply (due to the whole DNP issue) and that I won't get in the first time. Also, it is soo hard to let go of the ELMSN-CM offer just because it's higher education and I already have a bachelor's degree in biology. Please help! Any advice is appreciated! :) Thanks a bunch! live.love.laugh

I hope so too! My letter of intent for the ELMSN-CM is due this Friday and I would like to hear back from the ABSN prior to making a final decision. I hope it's Monday or Tuesday. **cross fingers**

Samuel Merritt ELMSN Fall 2012
So, how is everyone paying for this?? I will have to take out loans, but I haven't researched on how to do that yet. I also applied for FAFSA. Anyone has any good tips to give out for student loans? Or even how this whole process works? I was fortunate enough to have my undergraduate program paid for. So, I have very little to no experience on financing my way through school.

Samuel Merritt ELMSN Fall 2012
Hi xzalense, haha yeah, I broke it down to that point too. Again, I have yet to hear back from the ABSN program. I'm so tired of waiting for them. It has been over 6 months since I applied and the wait is driving me crazy! At this point, I just want to forget about the ABSN because it seems like they can't make a decision. Gahh. Like you said, both are fantastic programs. I have heard nothing but good things about the CM program. Definitely one of the most difficult decisions I have to make. You're number 3 on the waiting list, correct? I'm sure you'll get in. :)

You make a very good point, Supreme. The thing is that it is a lot of money too. If I go back for my NP, I'll have 2 master's degree. That's a lot of money and a lot of schooling. I actually have a co-worker who just graduated from the CM program. She loved it as well.

Also, I love how I'm going straight into a master's program. It has always been a dream of mine to get accepted into a grad program. So, it's hard to let it go.

Samuel Merritt ELMSN Fall 2012
Superme154, I haven't decided on that yet. I really like the program, but I have always wanted to be an NP. I might not have that chance to be an NP if I go to the CM program. But, at the same time I'm worried about the whole Doctor of Nursing Practice by 2015. So, if I take the ABSN program (assuming I get in) I'll have to go through even more years of schooling. I'm so lost! What do you think?

Does anyone know if the letter of intent needs to be received BY March 16th or is it POSTMARKED by March 16th? I'm still waiting to hear back from the ABSN program before I make my final decision.
