Doesn't sound like something you should get fired for but, on the other hand, as a nurse, you should not be informing family members of anything diagnosis related....that being said, families are desperate for information and you want to be as helpful as possible. So if you are unsure, the best thing to say is "As a nurse, I can't tell you a diagnosis because I am not a trained diagnostician, That is something you need to hear from the doctor" If you are a new nurse, learn this lesson.....Report is NOT a reliable source of information! Do not pass along information that you are not 1000% sure of!

    If you learn one thing in nursing, before you call a doctor or an NP or PA.....TAKE A SET OF VITAL SIGNS! It is so basic and I have been an NP for 2 years and still come across this...it is so frustrating!
