TWU Weekend Program Spring 2010 in Dallas
Plasma- I had the same reaction. I am so overwhelmed when I read the Pathophysiology book. The diagrams in the book fall short and it takes me at least 3 attempts to understand some of the text. I can tell I will need to spend lots of time studying for that class. I will be so overwhelmed if we have to know so much information. I am hoping the professor's notes will sum up what we need to know and we can focus on reading those topics from the text. WaterChickVick-how much of the text do we need to know for tests? Do we need to get those notes and use that as a guide for what readings to focus on from the text?

I was at Majors Books (on Butler across from UTSW and Parkland) on Wed. The books there are more expensive than online (Amazon.com & Barnes & Noble). They cost anywhere from $5-20 more per book compared to online. Amazon.com also gives you free shipping and no tax. I don't know about Barnes & Noble. Majors Books also sells Landau brand scrubs for ~$20 per piece. Lab coats are also ~$20. The TWU patches there are $1.99 each. They also sell the TWU WKND Software package ($286.61). I don't know of anywhere else you can buy those last two items. I just bought the software and patches. I am looking online for the scrubs and a lab coat. I was looking at this website that sells scrubs, allheart.com. They sell AllHeart brand scrubs starting at ~$10 per piece. I don't know what their shipping/tax policy is though. Has anyone bought from/looked at this website.

thanks waterchickvick. has anyone gotten their uniforms? does anyone know how much that will cost? i think i read earlier on this thread or another that will run ~$100-200. i am planning on heading to majors today ~4pm and will let you know how its goes. i just got my cpr certification (bls for healthcare providers) yesterday and it was a workout. we had to practice and test on plastic mannequins. it went well and i am glad i got it over with. i found this class through the american heart association website. it was in a long-term care facility in lewisville (i live in denton) and it cost me $65. i just read on another thread that there was supposed to be one given for the students in jan. does anyone have any info. on that? i don't remember this being announced during orientation.

You missed plenty if you didn't show up for orientation. Here it is: 1. Pharmacology for Nurses: A Pathophysiological Approach, 2nd Ed.; MP Adams, LN Holland 2. Pharmacology for Nurses: A Pathophysiological Approach (Workbook 2nd Ed); MP Adams, LN Holland 3. Pathophysiology: The Biologic Basis for Disease in Adults and Children, 5th Ed; KL McCance, SE Huether 4. Study Guide and Workbook for Pathophysiology: The Biological Basis for Disease in Adults and Children, 5th Ed; KL McCance, SE Huether. 5. Assessment Skills Laboratory Manual for Health and Physical Assessment in Nursing; EF Corbin, D D'Amico, C Barbarito 6. Health and Physical Assessment in Nursing; D D'Amico, C Barbarito 7. Clinical Handbook for Heath and Physical Assessment in Nursing; D D'Amico, C Barbarito You also need to buy Nursing uniforms and a stethoscope (at Majors Books- 2137 Butler St., Dallas, TX 75235) accross the street from UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospita)l. They can probably give you help with those things and the books. You also need to get CPR certified by taking the BLS (for Healthcare Providers class) course. You can find where they are given by looking at the website for the American Heart Association. We took a drug test at orientation and registered for classes. Nursing Assessment labs will be either in the morning or afternoon on Sat. Hope that helps.

TWU Weekend Program Spring 2010 in Dallas
Hi-I just joined this group-great for sharing/gathering information. I was at the Dec. 9 orientation also. I was wondering if anyone has bought the books, uniforms, stethoscope and has found a place to take CPR? I bought new books at Amazon.com for $340, no shipping and no tax. Not for everyone, but I didn't want to spend time shopping around too much. I was looking online to get pricing on TWU uniforms and a stethoscope. I am still looking for a place to take my CPR class. Going to try in Denton because that's where I live. Please post info about what you guys are doing and if you found better prices in one place. That would be very helpful. I bought my books first because I feel better about getting a head-start on reading. It looks like a tough semester at least for me. I have finished most of my immunizations. I still need 2nd and 3rd doses of Hep B. I got most of them at my Dr.'s office-$30 copay. Got titers at TWU Student Health Center -$115, and an MMR at the Denton County Health Dept. -$20. It still has not been posted on Pioneer Portal, though, so I called the TWU immunization office who confirmed they received the forms I had sent in late November. Good luck to you all and hope to hear from you soon.
