  1. yeah but im talking summer job and it gives me some experience in the field
  2. Thanks for the response and the information :) yes, I live in Indiana and yes I would like to work in the hospital setting rather than on my own. I do see it as more than just a specialization and for some reason Ive always been drawn to the idea of being part of the birthing experience. I am planning to go to college to be a nurse and I know that I will probably want to work in this are in some way or the other. I am just trying to figure out which path I should take to get there.. I can see why a natural birth would be advantegous, but I myself would probably want an epidural so I hardly feel that I could suggest otherwise
  3. Thanks so much for the reply :) very helpful information!! And congratualtions on your new son!!
  4. Does anyone know how often CNM's are hired in L & D at hospitals? Specifically in Indiana?
  5. Thanks for the advice guys! it looks to me like it would be a great opportunity! does anyone know of different plalces near Indianapolis where I could go to get the training? Possibly hospitals that offer it??
  6. Hello!! I am interested in becoming a CNM or a NP specializing in OB or neonatology because I would like to work in labor and delivery. I am new to this and I don't quite understand the difference in techniques and the "midwifery model" that every one keeps referring to? I think it is completely acceptable to do things like have an epidural during birth...I would just like to know if it's things like this that mainly set CNM's apart from other nurses working in labor and delivery? I was under the impression that they were just more specialized in the ability to deliver babies. This would really help me in deciding what I want to do. I look forward to any comments!! :) thanks, kelsey

  8. Thanks for the advice :) i deffinitely agree and will take this into consideration
  9. Thanks so much! this is great news, Im glad to hear that there are job openings at hospitals for CNA's in Indianapolis because I live near it as well. I am planning to go to IUPUI but I will probably take the CNA courses through ivy tech. And I agree tuition reimbursement is a great incentive. Thanks again for the response! :) kelsey
  10. That's true. I guess it just depends. I'm pretty sure that there are places that offer it near where I live. I'm just worried that the only jobs I would find would be in nursing homes and I dont see that helping me alot because its not where I plan to work in the future. But who knows it may be good experience.
  11. Well I'm pretty sure that Indiana doesn't require you to have a CNA's license. I know that it is alot of work. I'm aware of how long it takes to get a masters degree. I am going to get it because I would like to specialize in neonatology, OB, or nurse midwifery so that I can work in labor and delivery. This however is irrelevant. I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to get a CNA's license the summer before my freshman so that I could gain some experience? Thanks for the info..:)
  12. Thanks for the advice, I didnt know that it would be considered when I apply to nursing school. I know it will probably be hard to get a job at a hospital, but I figured that it would be the best way to get my foot in the door. thanks again for the advice!
  13. Hello! I am going to college to get a degree in nursing after i graduate high school and I was wondering if it would be worth it to get my CNA license over the summer so that I can start working at a hospital? I think it would be a great job and way to get some experience in the field but i dont know if it would be worth it? I also have no idea if there are any jobs as a CNA in Indiana hospitals. I'm not looking to work in a nursing home as that would not be where I'm planning to specialize. What should I do? Thanks, Kelsey
  14. Hello! I'm planning to go to college to get a masters degree after I graduate high school. I was wondering if it would be worth it to get a CNA's license so I can get a job at a hospital in the mean time? I will probably end up getting a part time job anyway and I thought it might give me some experience in the field, but i dont know if it would be worth it or if I could find a job as a CNA in a hospital. What should I do? Thanks!!
  15. thanks! that helped alot. I would like to have the option to either deliver babies or work with the mother and baby before and after delivery. I think that the CNM looks like the best choice for me if I do end up specializing in this area. Im not familiar with the University of Indiana..did u mean Indiana University (IU) or University of Indianapolis? They are all so similar :)
